Regal Sunbird Fly-in Safari

Experience the highlights of Tanzania with a safari in the country’s famous northern parks followed by historic Stone Town and the palm-fringed beaches of Zanzibar, staying in high-quality accommodation throughout.

Regal Sunbird Fly-in Safari: Summary

Regal Sunbird Fly-in Safari in a nutshell

The Regal Sunbird sample safari takes in the highlights of Tanzania, combining a classic safari in the northern parks with a week on Zanzibar, staying at high-quality safari camps and a luxury hotel on the beach.

You’ll start in northern Tanzania with a couple of nights in Tarangire National Park, staying at Kuro Tarangire. Enjoy the relative wilderness of this lesser-known park as you watch elephants wading through the Silale Swamps and discover Tarangire’s flora and fauna.

Next head north to the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact caldera in the world, whose crater floor is home to a high concentration of wildlife. Spend two nights at the stylish Entamanu Safari Camp, perched near the edge of the crater with stunning views.

Your next stop will be Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp in the Serengeti. This comfortable tented camp moves location several times a year in order to follow the wildebeest migration, giving you the best possible chance of seeing the vast herds. If you stay between June and October you may be lucky enough to witness a crossing over the Mara River.

Following your safari, you’ll fly onto Zanzibar. Spend a couple of nights in historic Stone Town where you can explore the labyrinth of narrow streets with a local guide and smell the fresh spices at the market. Then head on to the east coast of the island and enjoy a final three nights at the luxurious Tulia beach hotel.

Kuro Tarangire

Days 1-3

Kuro Tarangire is a delightful, intimate tented camp, located deep in Tarangire National Park, in an area with few visitors. Although the rooms are substantial, comfortable and well thought-out, the style is rustic, with a focus on natural rather than luxurious. The tranquil setting is also a favourite for wildlife, and animals often browse and graze nearby.

View full itinerary

Entamanu Ngorongoro

Days 3-5

Entamanu Ngorongoro is set in an isolated, scenic spot high on the crater rim. The drive in, along relatively poor roads, can take up to an hour and a half, but there's very often the bonus of giraffe (a species that is absent from the crater itself) to be seen en route, and the final approach into a grove of massive acacia trees, drooping with hanging moss, is impressive.

Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp

Days 5-8

Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp is a classic tented mobile camp for up to 14 guests. The camp changes location several times a year, broadly following the wildebeest migration around Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, when hundreds of thousands of animals move through the ecosystem.

Kisiwa House

Days 8-10

Constructed in 1840 by an influential Omani merchant, Kisiwa House was one of the first buildings in Stone Town and has been in the same family for generations. It was lovingly renovated, and opened to the public as a boutique hotel in 2009. Its central location in the heart of Stone Town's Shangani area, just off Kenyatta Road, makes this a great base to explore all that Zanzibar's capital has to offer.

Tulia Zanzibar

Days 10-13

After four years in the building, the 16-room Tulia Zanzibar Beach Resort, to give its full name, opened in 2016 on Zanzibar’s north-east coast. The sea-facing side of the property is set on low cliffs above the Indian Ocean, with the beach below accessible only at mid-to-low tide. The very large, air-conditioned rooms are separated by densely planted tropical gardens and indigenous shade trees.
