Marabou Stork Fly-in Safari

Four luxurious camps enable exploration of Tanzania’s north and southern regions. With a range of land- and water-based activities available throughout, decidedly comfortable accommodation and applicable long-stay discounts, this adventurous safari is excellent value.

Marabou Stork Fly-in Safari: Summary

Marabou Stork safari in a nutshell

This luxurious safari visits both northern and southern Tanzania, including stays in four stylish sister camps located within prime wildlife destinations.

Beginning at Oliver’s Camp in the quieter south-east of Tarangire National Park, the safari starts with the chance to enjoy guided walking safaris, night drives and fly-camping. An excellent introduction to the trip, Oliver’s Camp makes for a tastefully rustic base from which to explore a relatively remote region of the park.

Maintaining this degree of exclusivity, The Highlands sits removed from other crater-rim camps in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, overlooking the forested slopes near Olmoti Crater. Here, the views are breathtaking and a unique bubble-domed design allows for spectacular visibility over the crater’s sunrises and sunsets. Ample hiking opportunities, cultural visits and safari on the crater floor offer great variety to a day’s activities.

The safari then travels to Ruaha National Park, where Jabali Ridge makes for a decidedly luxurious base in an excellent game-viewing region. Jabali sits atop rocky kopjes with commanding views over the surrounding bush, and offers a mixture of both day and night game drives as well as walking safaris.

As the name might suggest, Roho ya Selous (translating as "heart of the Selous", the previous name for Nyerere) occupies a similarly excellent location in Nyerere National Park. Being near to both Lake Manze and Lake Nzerakera, the camp offers a range of water-based activities such as boating and fishing as well as 4WD drives and walking safaris.

Run by the same experienced safari operator, these decidedly stylish camps come with the option of long-stay discounts, making this luxurious trip excellent value.

Oliver's Camp

Days 1-3

In the quiet south-east of Tarangire National Park, beside Silale and Lormakau marshes, Oliver's Camp is a lovely tented camp set on a low, sandy ridge. It is particularly good for wildlife in the height of the dry season, when the marshes attract huge herds of buffalo, zebra and wildebeest. It used to have a separate satellite camp, Little Oliver's, close by, but now the two camps are incorporated as one, with a suspension-bridge-style raised walkway linking the two, over an area of dense bush.

The Highlands

Days 3-6

The Highlands is located north of the Ngorongoro Crater, far from other camps in a forested area near the Olmoti Volcano. The design is unique – you won't find another camp like this anywhere else in East Africa.

View full itinerary

Namiri Plains Camp

Days 6-8

Namiri Plains is located an hour and a half's drive due east from the game-rich core of the Serengeti – Seronera. The camp first opened in 2014 in an area that for more than 20 years had been closed to the public. Previously this region had exclusively been used for cheetah conservation and the number of big cats found here – especially lion prides and cheetahs – is astonishing.

Jabali Ridge

Days 8-11

Jabali Ridge is an exciting new luxury addition to Ruaha National Park. It opened in September 2017, in a prime game viewing area with commanding views over the park and the Mwagusi River.

Roho ya Selous

Days 11-14

Opened in 2017 Roho ya Selous is currently the newest safari camp in the Nyerere National Park. Its name means 'Heart of the Selous', after the old Selous Game Reserve. It's located on a small promontory on the west side of Lake Nzerakera, just to the north of the inland delta formed by the Rufiji River. This is indeed at the heart of the Nyerere National Parks' best area for game.
