"Namutoni Restcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 30 Oct 2007
"Good location near lots of busy waterholes.

Lovely renovated rooms. Lloyd particularly enjoyed the big bathtub!

However the room we had (Room 18) was next to where the maids congregrate early every morning on the walkway outside our room, so we were not able to enjoy sitting on our outside deck.

Food was average buffet food. Would have been nice to have been able to buy small meals such as sandwiches etc. Fortunately we had our own cheese and crackers and could buy yogurt. I would not be too keen on paying an all-inclusive room and meal rate as is proposed for next year, based on the food offered." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia

"Namutoni Restcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 16 Oct 2007
"I think they have made some real erors in the refurbishment there. Superficially it looks good but already the window blinds in the rooms are bent and tangled, the twin washbasins mean there is no room to place washbags, the loo is in sight of all and sundry and our air conditioning didn't work ( we had to move rooms). I think they should have gone for low tech rather than a sophisticated look. They were working under real pressure in the restaurants as the kitchens weren't ready so they were doing really well to provide food. The service under the circumstances was good. The waterhole was pretty poor and odd looking and they now charge day visitors to go up to the viewing platform. If you're staying there its free.
The waterholes around Namutoni were excellent so jsutified staying there." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia

"Lots of animals"

2 nights Arrived 29 Sep 2007
"We stayed at Halali restcamp as Namutoni was being refurbished. Halali was OK but quite a difference from private lodges.

Our animal named bungalow was fine although the setting was not brilliant. The area hasd not been landscaped so was a bit dusty and barren. Bungalow had a small private garden area with a hot tub. Waterhole was a good walk in the dark - not very well lit or signed.

The food varied from good to not so good although all the cold buffet sections were excellent. Facilities not brilliant, eg swimming pool empty of water!" See all these reviews: 22n in Namibia

"again big camp rather impersonal but new bungalows were superb! Refurbishment was taking place during our stay so eating facilities were none too great.

Look forward to seeing the old fort in all its new splendor." See all these reviews: 19n in Namibia

"Rooms wonderful!"

2 nights Arrived 4 Sep 2007
"Our room was excellent - sunken bath, his and hers sinks! Our loo was open-plan, which seemed a bit strange.

if you were two friends sharing, rather than a long-married couple, this might have been awkward!

Quite a long walk from the parking area carrying our suitcases. Again, a lot of building work going on, but it should look good when it's finished.

The waterhole was disappointing - not much action. Though we did see meerkats on site, which was lovely - not having seen many 'in the wild'." See all these reviews: 19n in Namibia

"Waterhole did not have some many animals.

The camp was in the middle of being rebuilt. The room was unbelievable, it was like a room you see in a designer magazine.

The restaurent was good with a nice feel about it. I hope the rebuild does not spoil it." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"Amazing birds as Namutoni"

1 night Arrived 8 Aug 2007
"The room in Namutoni was gorgeous - although the open-plan toilet a little strange!

The water hole here was the least attractive and seemingly least visited of the three rest camps (we called in at Halali on our way through) however the bird's display as the sun set was absolutely incredible...What must have been millions of tiny birds appearing from all over the sky, swooping in huge flocks, landing on trees, lining up on the rushes and suddenly setting off again was breath-taking.

The food here was massively better than at Okaukejo - both dinner and breakfast very good.

The shop was not especially well stocked (compared to the other rest camps)

When we came to leave Etosha we could not find the form we had filled in on arrival. Although we eventually found it after a stressful 45 minutes which involved unpacking all our luggage and driving back to Namutoni - it would have been good to have known that we would need to show this on departure. The woman on the gate was not going to let us out without paying again if we couldn't find it." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia

"Namutoni Restcamp"

1 night Arrived 5 Aug 2007
"At the moment the camp is being upgraded & refurbished. When it is finished it will be a credit to the country.

However on arrival we were asked for N$500 deposit without any prior knowledge & this came as quite a surprise. The receptionist was quite abrupt & could of explained the reasonning behind the deposit. We found out later that this was because previous guests were removing things, towel etc from the newly refurbished accommodation.

We understand that the upgrade needs to be undertaken consequently the area did resemble a building site." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia
