Peacock Cichlid Safari

Snorkel in Lake Malawi’s famously clear fresh water, relax on the beach and explore Likoma Island from the award-winning Kaya Mawa. A chilled luxury add-on to end your safari.

Peacock Cichlid Safari: Summary

Peacock Cichlid Safari in a nutshell

Kaya Mawa is one of the best lodges in Malawi and we can’t think of a better setting to round off a safari than a few days relaxing on its golden beaches and discovering Lake Malawi’s crystal-clear waters.

Sat at the southern tip of Likoma Island, close to Mozambique’s shoreline and entirely surrounded by its portion of the lake, Kaya Mawa is chic spot full of character thanks to welcoming staff from the community and décor by local craftspeople using traditional methods and recycled materials. All 12 stylish rooms and private houses are nicely secluded with views out across the water, some with plunge pools and direct access to the lake.

For those after something a little more active than beach and spa time, head out on kayaks, go snorkelling to see Lake Malawi’s endemic rainbow of cichlid fish, take a PADI diving course or try your hand at sailing, kitesurfing, wakeboarding and waterskiing. On land, meet some of Likoma’s residents on visits to the cathedral, local market and community projects supported by the lodge. You can also take out mountain bikes and quadbikes.

Then return each evening to Kaya Mawa's bar and award-winning cuisine of local produce served on the beach under the stars.
