"Halali Restcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 21 Sep 2008
"Arrived to find that our booking had been cancelled ( this had happened to another couple we had met at Okaukeujo also with Wilderness Safari). Luckily they could give us a room suitable for disabled which although adequate did not have the same facilities as the Bush Chalet we had paid for.

Neither Wilderness Safari or Halali took responsibility for the error and no recompense /explaination was offered or made. Also disappointed that no alternative meal was available for vegetarians on the BBQ night, just the salads that everyone else had.

Great waterhole, good morning drive with a nice guide. Thanks for the cosy ponchos.

However we had a great time at Halali." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"Halili Restcamp - much quieter than Okaukeujo"

2 nights Arrived 17 Sep 2008
"Halali was much quieter than Okakuejo, i.e. less people. The rooms had recently been done up. We had a one-bedroomed bungalow, which had a separate lounge - both the bedroom and lounge had air conditioning. The bed had mosquito nets.

The food in the restaurant was similar to Okaukuejo, and the shop was stocked similarly to the one at Okaukuejo.

We saw rhino at the waterhole in the evening, and one lunchtime we were at the waterhole, about 35 elephants came and used the waterhole.

Again, like Okaukeujo, there was no information about what animals could be seen where." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Accomodation more dated than Okaukuejo but still clean and good value and quieter.

The restaurant lacked atmosphere and food was not as good as Okaukuejo while the waterhole lacked much of interest (though this may have just been down to luck as to what turned up when) and is not as comfortable to sit around and wait." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia

2 nights Arrived 13 Sep 2008
"Great location in Etosha National Park. Room very good and clean, air conditioning very efficient.

Kitchen very basic and you need to bring your own cleaning, washing up materials if you want to self cater and have a BBQ which was a welcome change. We had shopped at a supermarket in Outjo before reaching Etosha but the shop at Halali was not too bad for basic provisions and frozen meat.

Lucky to see white rhino, bull elephant and spotted hyena at waterhole in the evening. Great breakfast and can recommend the omelettes. Very relaxed atmosphere." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"Halali Restcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 8 Sep 2008
"This camp felt more like a small town, large enough to make it worthwhile taking the car when going to the restaurant. As a result it was necessarily impersonal, and very different from all the other places we had stayed in. (However, it appeared smaller and more intimate than the Okaukuejo camp we passed through when we entered Etosha.)

We were given a two room bungalow, air conditioned and equipped with a fridge, which was most comfortable and gave us an opportunity to wash some clothes and sort ourselves out, although it inevitably lacked the character of the other camps/lodges we had stayed in. The eating arrangements in the restaurant were adequate if not exciting, and care had to be taken not to arrive at a busy time (coming early avoided all problems).

The waterhole was overlooked by a covred seating area on a rocky outcrop. While we watched on the two nights we saw numerous guinea foul and three rhinos but not much else. Perhaps we were unlucky, but if so this was made up by the sights we saw at the many waterholes we visited during the day.

Rather surprisingly, we were told that the camp was not running any game-watching trips that week - we had thought an evening one might have been worth doing.

The camp's central location was convenient for visiting waterholes to the east and the west. The large swimming pool was appreciated for a mid-day cooling off beteen animal watching." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia; 6n in South Africa

"Halali Rest Camp"

2 nights Arrived 6 Sep 2008
"Very similar comments as for Okaukuejo. It is again the waterhole that provided the main attraction and which was truly remarkable in the diversity of the wildlife and the little dramas taking place: a baby elephant falling into too deep water and being pulled out by its mother; a standoff of somewhat unfair proportions between a wart hog and an elephant; rhino competing for the "best " drinking site and so on.

As with no doubt all the camps in and around Etosha it is the easy access to the park and its waterholes that is their main facility. As I said, I would stay anywhere to enable me to experience Etosha but that is not intended to be a crticism of the camps which were perfectly adequate." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia
