Namibia Trip Summary
Namibia between 5 Sep 2008 and 24 Sep 2008
A fascinating country with so much of interest, coupled with good service and great places to stay."

Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch

Sossus Dune Lodge
"Sossus Dune Lodge review"
Food excellent but can be a problem if you go later. Lunch can take a while to get served. Rooms were stylish and well designed. Staff were very good and eager to please. Note that the Sundowner tour was good but probably not worth the cost.
P.S. you get a free minibar with the honeymon suite, though whether you can get through it all is another question!"

Lagoon Lodge
"Lagoon Lodge review"
"Great morning out with a very knowledgeable guide. The dolphins and seals were very playful and there was an interesting look at the birds on the lagoon.
Also, sandwiches and coffee are included which was a nice surprise and we were sent some digital photos afterwards."

The Stiltz
"The Stiltz review"
The premium you pay to stay here does not seem worth it, especially given the number of B&B's in Swakopmund. It is also a little out-of-the-way. Not far from town as such, but further than most accomodation which may be an issue if you feel nervous walking around after dark.
Also there is no pool or bar on site. In short, a decent place to stay, but over-priced."
"One of the trip highlights. A great guide, knowledgeable on any subject and willing to change the tour to suit us. Topped by a superb lunch on top of the dunes I would reccommend this for anyone with any interest in natural history, or Namibia in general."

Cape Cross Lodge
"Cape Cross Lodge review"
Only 90 mins from Swakopmund and is a great place to start a trip through the Skeleton coast, but there is not a lot to do here apart from the seal colony, so don't arrive to early! Best idea may be to arrive mid-afternoon.
A general point is that if you have a big fuel tank (and/or a diesel) you could easily drive from Henties Bay to Damaraland through the Skeleton coast in one go (approx 6 hours) without staying anywhere en route."

Doro Nawas
"Doro Nawas review"
Staff courteous but management not very helpful at solving problems. We had no hot water for 2 days and they were not able to fix this before we left, but implied that the problem would be solved quickly. On check-out it transpired that they were unable to do this (resulting in another cold shower) but management implied that we were at fault for not complaining earlier. We appreciate that the lack of water may have been unavoidable, but we should have been offered an alternative.
Accomodation is showing it's age (tired looking bedding and sinks) and the food was cooked well but a poorly thought-out menu (i.e. too much European food, no local game, some very stodgy combinations).
Overall, not bad but very pricey for what you get. It is probably worth looking at alternatives in the area."

Okaukuejo Camp
"Okaukuejo Restcamp review"
The food was good when we were there (especially for a buffet) and was certainly good value, although veggies may struggle for choice.
It is a busy site but well worth it to be inside the camp and for the waterhole."

Halali Camp
"Halali Restcamp review"
The restaurant lacked atmosphere and food was not as good as Okaukuejo while the waterhole lacked much of interest (though this may have just been down to luck as to what turned up when) and is not as comfortable to sit around and wait."

Onguma Tented Camp
"Onguma Tented Camp review"
The tents overlook the waterfall which can give some amazing night-viewings, but can also mean you don't get much sleep!
Well appointed rooms and helpful staff, although no fridge was a bit of a shame.
Excellent food and the bar area and dining room are beautiful (and the small pool very "refreshing"!)."

Okonjima Plains Camp
"Okonjima Main Camp review"
New bungalows are probably more modern than the garden rooms (no AC or fridge) and there is an ongoing plan of rennovations to the older parts of the lodge.
Well worth visiting for 1 night or 2. 2 are probably needed to take part in all the activities. Facilities include a pool and also self-guided walking trails which means you avoid the "cabin-fever" of some lodges."
A great place to stay on the first night, especially if you can get one of the dune bungalows.
Very friendly staff and great relaxed atmosphere. Accomodation of a very high standard."
