"Tamarind Tree Hotel review"

3 nights Arrived 12 Sep 2024
"The hotel was clean. Staff welcoming.

After I got settled, I discovered my watch battery had died. When I tried to go down to the lobby for guidance about getting a new battery, the elevator wouldn't work for me. I discovered my room key was showing red not green so I couldn't get down to the lobby. A nice guest used his key so I could go down. The staff arranged for me to go by car ($30 USD) to Galleria mall to get - not a new battery but a new watch. At least I had a working watch.

The last night at the hotel there was a band. My room was above the bar, so I got very little sleep. And I had to ask more than once for more drinking water. They kept forgetting. But otherwise, the hotel was comfortable and the restaurant fine - very slow service, long wait for food, and a bit on the expensive side, but reasonable if you ordered from the bar menu." "The Tamarind was very nice: clean, comfortable, staff were great.

The only reason I give it a "Good" is because our last night, a Saturday night, the music and noise from the party down stairs and the bars next door was all night long and very loud. Sleep was difficult and we had an early wake up to catch our flight.

Meals were reasonable and very good." See all these reviews: 13n in Kenya

2 nights Arrived 12 Aug 2024
"Decent hotel, nothing fancy but reasonable, clean, great rooms and very conveniently located (close to both airports).

Also a definite plus: it's basically next door to Carnivore which - as tourists - is a must-try restaurant in Nairobi.

In short: there are surely fancier hotels in Nairobi but this is a convenient, reasonably priced choice." See all these reviews: 8n in Kenya

1 night Arrived 4 Aug 2024
"We arrived late in the evening and only stayed one night as it was just a stopover after the flight. The room was very comfortable and spacious. We had connecting rooms for the four of us which was nice as well. The breakfast in the morning was a good buffet with plenty of options." See all these reviews: 8n in Kenya

3 nights Arrived 17 Jun 2024
"The staff at the hotel were very helpful in dealing with a small (self-generated) problem that we had, and also assisted us with a driver for the afternoon.

The room was comfortable and well-appointed, with the exception of the fact that all of the soap dispensers in the bathroom were broken." See all these reviews: 13n in Kenya

"Very nice hotel...."

3 nights Arrived 17 Jun 2024
"We stayed at Tamarind Tree as part of a group,10 day safari package. We chose to arrive early to avoid issues with airlines. Upon arrival your luggage is put through a security system and you have to walk through a metal detector. It was 50/50 on having to walk through it each time we returned to the hotel.

Since we were with a tour group check in was very easy. We had no paperwork to fill out.

Our room was very nice, big comfy bed, nice view out onto the pool area. The only drawback to us was zero privacy in the bath area, even the toilet. The toilet had a glass door but no solid walls to the ceiling for privacy. However, this would not prevent us from staying in future.

The breakfast buffet is amazing!!!! Way better than any "breakfast included" hotel in the United States!

We did the lunch buffet once and about fell over when we signed the bill. Almost $80/usd! Didn't do that again. Ate off the menu for lunch and dinner after that. Off the menu food was ok. We had burgers for one meal and the meat was very....loose. Didn't appeal to us.

Our last night there 6 of us from our tour group decided to eat dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant. Nice walking path connecting the hotel and restaurant. At night they have security walk you back to Tamarind. Highly recommend eating here. We tried so many different types of meat, including alligator and ostrich. The cost is all inclusive BTW.

We had 3 birthday cards we wanted to mail (daughter, grandson, great granddaughter). I was surprised the front desk didn't have stamps and mail pickup. They did, however, have someone go to a post office and mail them for us. Our grandson got his in 21 days. Haven't heard about the others.

The hotel made arrangements for a private driver to take us around a bit, $60usd plus we tipped him. We went to an outdoor market, Kazuri Beads, and an artists coop. He was very knowledgeable about Nairobi, of course, and answered all our questions about life there. He purposely did not take us into Nairobi proper as there were riots happening at the time. The riots were about government taxation of wages. So many residents are unemployed, or don't make much, hence the riots against it.

As for grading the aspects of the hotel, I didn't grade Location because, well, we really had no clue where we were in relation to anything. Others did all the driving." See all these reviews: 13n in Kenya

"Tamarind Tree Hotel review"

3 nights Arrived 25 Jan 2024
"The reservation for two beds not correct. The room assigned had a one bed which was not a great way to start the trip when very tired upon arrival. However, the hotel staff quickly found a twin bed room so all was fixed. Nevertheless, an irritant. I am rating the hotel room "good" based on the reservation mix-up.

The staff was quick to answer any and all questions. Given the fact this was a first trip to Kenya (and Africa), their patience was much appreciated.

The location seemed a little sketchy but it didn't matter since I wasn't interested in exploring the city. The hotel grounds were great and it was terrific to sit outside and enjoy the warmer weather." See all these reviews: 13n in Kenya
