My Aug 2024 trip - Kenya
Kenya between 12 Aug 2024 and 27 Aug 2024
"Overall an excellent trip, Expert Africa's team - Lyndsey in primis - was attentive, highly communicative, competent and were able to suggest the best itinerary and options given our budget and our wishes.
We were very happy dealing with them, as well as with the quality of their partner companies and staff on the ground, and would highly recommend them to anyone wishing to undertake a safari trip in Africa."

Nairobi Giraffe Centre visit
"Nairobi Giraffe Centre visit review"
13 Aug 2024 • Morning excursion
A very touristy experience where large crowds of tourists "swarm" the giraffes to feed them.
Interesting experience but honestly the weakest one of our Kenyan adventure.
Avoid if you don't like tourist traps.

Nairobi Elephant Orphanage visit
"Nairobi Elephant Orphanage visit review"
13 Aug 2024 • Morning excursion
Excellent activity if you like to see baby elephants (and a baby rhino!) fed, they're playful and if you arrive early enough to be in the first row you'll see them from real close.
You can tell the center cares for these orphans, and their program to reintegrate them in the wild is stellar.
Highly recommended.

Safari in Nairobi National Park
"Safari in Nairobi National Park review"
13 Aug 2024 • Afternoon excursion
The novelty here is that the park is right in the middle of the capital - definitely an unicum.
It's definitely worth braving the early wake-up call and starting early: in our experience we mostly saw animals only at the very beginning (i.e. 6.30am or so).
Very lucky at the beginning - we saw a couple lions from up close and a family of rhinos just snoozing off - it tapered off later on, although we were still lucky to see a giraffe and a rhino crossing the road just next to us. Plus a variety of birds and ostriches.
In short: if you're in Africa to do safaris in proper natural reserves, this won't impress you. But it's a good "soft intro" to safaris while being effectively in town.

Porini Rhino Camp

"Excellent location and attentive, lovely staff, especially the manager David ("D.G") was outstanding. However, compared to other camps you might have visited (and compared to some we visited later on), this will prove a bit rustic/rough for some. There are no charging ports anywhere except in the manager's tent; WiFi is also only present close to the manager's tent (and weak/spotty in general). There is no warm water, save for a bucket every morning and a bucket shower (which can run out easily).
The waterhole is a nice addition but during our stay there were some problems with the water pipes so it was pretty dry, with little wildlife.
Food and drinks were ok but honestly one or two notches below what we experienced in later camps in Mara North.
Finally, if you go during their winter (i.e. July/August) get ready to dress warm: we expected some chills but the nights could be really cold, as could the early morning drives. The weather can also change a lot (we were there in August and it rained almost every day, which increases humidity and lowers temperatures further even in the tents).
The real appeal is its location on the Eastern border of Ol Pejeta, with a lot of rhinos and lions sightings. The drivers did a good job and overall the experience was very positive."

"Absolutely outstanding experience. By far the best of the 5+ safari camps I've visited so far in my African trips.
Excellent staff, consistently outstanding food, great rooms and facilities (for those who have been to other camps in Africa: I mean solid WiFi throughout the whole camp, charging ports everywhere including in your room, hot water all day long and traditional shower vs. a bucket one).
In addition their choice of spirits was the best I've ever seen in a safari camp, with multiple premium choices available. They even prepared cocktails in the afternoon and iced tea in the afternoon!
Every lunch and every dinner were impeccable, we also had some vegan guests staying with us and the staff went above and beyond to comply and offer them the same level of outstanding cuisine.
The manager - Thomas - was just a class act, but the whole staff was attentive and always smiling and friendly. Definitely highly recommended to everyone."

Also a definite plus: it's basically next door to Carnivore which - as tourists - is a must-try restaurant in Nairobi.
In short: there are surely fancier hotels in Nairobi but this is a convenient, reasonably priced choice."
