"We loved Hoodia. The owners were extremely welcoming and very gracious. They were kind enough to deliver a pair of glasses we accidentally left behind to our next accommodation.

The food was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Sossusvlei with Daniel, who gave us expert information about the region and the desert." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia

"Hoodia Desert Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 20 Jun 2023
"We stayed for two nights at Hoodia and were greeted by an incredible dark sky for both nights with the incredible milky way and stars flooding the night sky. This was especially enjoyable on our first night sundowner where our hosts had laid a table for two with snacks and drinks on the side of a nearby mountain for us to watch the sunset and the stars. So memorable.
We took a guided tour out to Sossuslvei deep in the Namib Desert. An incredible place with might dunes in red sand creating a cove around a dead lake with 1000yr old tress on the lake floor. A much photographed location and you can tell why when you are there, striking shapes and colours, quite other worldly in the middle of the desert. Our guide had laid another incredible table in a shaded area for us to enjoy lunch, we felt very privileged.
The Hoodia Lodge is beautifully presented with only a small amount of lodges which ensured is was a relaxed atmosphere and food served here was possibly the best we had on our whole 2 week holiday." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Hoodia Desert Lodge"

2 nights Arrived 23 May 2023
"After a long drive, especially with Google taking us to a locked gate, we were so happy to arrive. Thomas the owner was there along with the staff to greet us. I had requested in advance chalets 9, 10, 11, and we were assigned to those chalets. The chalets are set apart, so they are very private.

Hoodia Lodge is set in an amazing location with a mountain backdrop and views of the desert. There is a small waterhole behind the main lodge, but we did not see any animals there. On the morning we left there was a large troop of baboon on the move behind the chalets.

We arrived. Had a chance to change and do some hand washing, then we were taken to have sundowners in the desert on the side of a butte. A table was set with drinks and appetizers, then we were treated to the spectacular colorful sunset with the desert colors changing from browns, to oranges and pinks. Along with some springbok off in the distance. What a wonderful start to our Namibia holiday.

The rooms are well appointed, very comfortable beds with quality linen and mosquito netting. Each room has an indoor and outdoor shower (outdoor is also a large bath tub). There is an outside seating area, and also a large outside deck at the main lodge.

The lodge staff are friendly and very service oriented and all speak excellent English. And the food - every meal we had from breakfast to dinner was excellent.

The day after arrival, we did the full day excursion to Sossusvlei. It is about 30 minutes to the park entrance gate. We were not particularly impressed with our guide. It felt like he had a schedule of stops, and he was not stopping except at those stops. The only animal he pointed out all day was a jackal that ran across the road in front of us. I'm rating the lodge as Excellent. But to be honest, if you read my review, I'm giving the Sossusvlei excursion an Average because of the guide." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"A very warm welcome awaited us as we drove towards the Lodge as staff were waving at us and greeted us with hot face/hand towels and a drink.

Check in was thorough and helpful, and the room was just as described online, very pleasant.

The food here was amongst the best on our trip - the steak on our first night was not bettered anywhere else - and the view from the terrace for pre, and post dinner drinks was divine." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia

"Hoodia Desert Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 7 Feb 2023
"The lodge only had one other set of guests on our arrival and we were alone for night two so we got an unusual experience of the lodge.

Facilities are excellent as is the service and we were very well looked after including our day trip to the dunes which we very much enjoyed.

A highlight for us was stargazing - the moon was rising early so we asked the staff to switch off some lights to allow an early view of the Milky Way. They obliged by switching off all the lights and we had a spectacular view of the night sky - never to be forgotten.

The food requires a shout out - truly excellent food, served and presented with care, we were genuinely blown away by the quality given the remote location- a real treat." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Hoodia Desert Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 31 Oct 2022
"Hoodia Desert Lodge is located 22 km from Sesriem, the entrance gate to the famous Sossusvlei area. The lodge sits on the dry banks of Tsauchab River and it is surrounded by mountains in a rather harsh landscape with stony plains and limited vegetation.

It´s in a modern and design´ish style, but perhaps lacks a bit of personality. This is however offset by the many comforts: Shared pool with a view to the dry riverbed, large seating area with comfortable sofas and chairs. Large dining room with central fireplace, and a shaded terrace. In addition, good internet.

In the private thatched bungalows, there is a wonderful bathroom with both indoor and outdoor bathing facilities, including an outdoor bathtub. All in beautiful terracotta colors. Furthermore, large double bed, fridge and air con.

We stayed on a half board basis. Both breakfast and dinner were of high quality.

The day after arrival, we did the full day excursion to Sossusvlei from Hoodia Desert Lodge. It´s recommended.

PRO´s
- Completely modern and in perfect condition
- Large, beautiful rooms with a romantic outdoor bathtub
- High food quality
- Fantastic full day excursion to Sossusvlei

CON´s
- Slightly impersonal "designer style lodge"
- Exposed isolated location on the dry riverbed and stony plain" See all these reviews: 35n in Namibia

"Hoodia was wonderful, it was lovely to be greeted at the door with a warm friendly welcome from Thomas and the staff.

The central area of the lodge is stylish but welcoming, the restaurant is the same with food quality to match the surroundings.

The Sundowner evening excursion was absolutely the best of our trip, set up with individual tables for each couple, you felt you were on your own with no one else around! We were lucky it was a beautiful clear evening to see the sun setting.

Ineos was our guide to the Dunes, he was very informative about the desert and the area around. The lunch set up was amazing.

All in all we really enjoyed Hoodia Desert Lodge." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Hoodia Desert Lodge review"

"Excellent lodge with great attention to detail and personal service. The sundowner experience was the best of our trip and the memory of it will stay with us forever.

The restaurant was well designed with a great ambience and a food quality to match. The lounge area of the lodge was similarly well designed and a lovely place to relax.

I have a very minor quibble that the lighting in the individual lodges was a bit underpowered, so I sometimes needed a torch to find things in my luggage, but it feels churlish to mention such a trivial point on what was an amazing stay." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia
