"Unique accommodation and fantastic meals!"

1 night Arrived 3 May 2024
"What a beautiful location and gardens. We loved the bougainvillea, the outlook over the valley, and the infinity pool with gardens. The resident meerkats were so much fun to watch. Delicious food; really inventive meals that were expertly prepared. Great hospitality, friendly staff, comfortable beds. Would highly recommend to include this oasis on your Namibian holiday!" "Barkhan Dune Retreat review"

1 night Arrived 16 Apr 2022
"The lodge is in a spectacular setting, and the husband/wife hosts are truly delightful.

My wife lost her cell iphone (it somehow dropped out of her pocket on the way to the sundowner), and the staff walked miles along the road to retrace her path, and ultimately found her phone -- talking about going above and beyond!" See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Barkhan Dune Retreat review"

2 nights Arrived 28 Mar 2022
"Barkhan Dune Retreat we very much enjoyed. Very personal.

Excellent cooking, the hosts are a very friendly and sympathetic young couple full of ideas how to develop and further improve the place.

Beautiful new chalets. Very spacious.

I can strongly recommend. It is not luxurious, more down to earth, but very good and very clean." See all these reviews: 21n in Namibia

"A real retreat"

1 night Arrived 17 Oct 2019
"A lovely stay at this retreat for one night. The hostess prepared a wonderful homemade dinner.

The rooms were set into the barkan dune and were very comfortable and private. Coffee was brought to the room in the morning and it was nice to have that first cup at leisure enjoying the desert morning.

A short hike up the nearby mountain was well marked and offered stunning views of the surrounds." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia

"Barchan Dune Retreat stopover"

1 night Arrived 16 Jul 2019
"This was a convenient stop between Sossusvlei and Walvis Bay. We didn't leave Sesriem until lunchtime so it would have been too long a day driving straight through to Walvis Bay.

The lodge was in a lovely setting; the rooms were excellent; the drive to the top of the nearby Spreetshoogte Pass was a very worthwhile diversion - the views were terrific; but the food let this place down for us.

I don't think it was freshly prepared - we appeared to be given ready meals from the freezer. Dinner was served at a large communal table but we were the only guests. Excellent wines were included with dinner.

The hosts were very pleasant - they are currently building more rooms and are installing a swimming pool." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Stay among the rocks @Barchan Dune Retreat"

1 night Arrived 4 Jun 2019
"Very friendly hosts who aimed to please us and provide a good service.

Unfortunately the water for the shower was cold but otherwise the room was very comfortable.

We were advised to travel up to the nearby Spreetshoogte Pass to watch the sunset which was well worthwhile." See all these reviews: 9n in Namibia; 5n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Barchan Dune Retreat review"

1 night Arrived 17 Nov 2018
"The lodge changed ownership recently and the new managers Niekie and Gerde had only been there for about 3 months. A lovely couple - we were the only guests there that evening - and we had an excellent meal with them, Gerde even printing off the recipe of the excellent and unusual starter she had made.

The lodge is set in stunning scenery, and the room we had was built into a dune. It was very hot during our stay, and the room was a little difficult to cool.

We went on the sundowner farm drive which was interesting, with quite a lot of game on show.

We liked Barchan Dune last time we stayed there, and still do" See all these reviews: 26n in Namibia

"Beautiful setting"

1 night Arrived 9 Jan 2018
"We really felt welcome & invited to join in the family evening meal, it was really home from home.

The drive there was a long way off the 'main' highway, we found the driving around this area quite tiring though in beautiful scenery.

A beautiful house with very cleverly designed, hidden rooms tucked under the dunes in their grounds. The gardens & birds were wonderful.

The hosts & staff were really friendly & welcoming & gave us really lovely home cooked food." See all these reviews: 27n in Namibia; 1n in Botswana

"Retreat is an apt word"

1 night Arrived 21 Nov 2017
"We really liked this one. It is just about to change hands (although there is to be a year's hand-over) so it may alter.

The retreat is well off the beaten track in an isolated valley. I loved its solitude. It doesn't feel the least bit like a business, just somebody's house with a few rooms. The current owners are most interesting and great hosts. You dine with them and I find that much more entertaining and informative than sitting in a restaurant.

The food, dinner and breakfast, was very good and beautifully served. Well done the (silent) kitchen team!" See all these reviews: 19n in Namibia; 4n in South Africa
