"Desert Camp review"

1 night Arrived 6 Sep 2024
"Desert Camp was a wonderful place to be based for our trip to the Sossussvlei dunes.

We loved our simple accommodation with really fabulous views to all sides, and the peace and quiet. Also the swimming pool, which was a joy after the long journey from Windhoek.

Eating, information and assistance at the main lodge were all excellent." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Desert Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 5 Sep 2024
"Very good starting point for our trip, loved the location.

Although we had to eat at the lodge 5 minutes drive away, this was not an issue.

Rooms were very clean and very pleasant staff.

We also did a very enjoyable activity to see Sossusvlei dunes, Dead Vlei and Sesriem Canyon from Sossusvlei Lodge." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia; 3n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe

"The desert for ourselves in Desert Camp"

3 nights Arrived 25 May 2023
"Desert camp is excellent, Sossuvlei Lodge restaurant is terrible.

Desert Camp itself is great for sleeping , enjoying the stunning view from our bungalow , feeding the dozens of birdies living in the huge nest in the tree next door. Nothing luxurious but super clean and comfortable. Happy to be there and not at Sossusvlei Lodge !Actually, although there is a compact lock up kitchen outside the room and a BBQ, you don't feel like buying your food and cooking.

So for breakfast and dinner, you have no other choice than patronizing the only place around ,that is Sossusvlei Lodge , a rather ugly, pretentious building by the way. They do not deserve the name of "Lodge".And this is the problem. We are captives as there is nowhere else to eat! !

Nowhere else in Namibia, for three whole weeks, have we eaten so badly.Maybe groups are happy with the grub but I doubt independent travellers are !The managers do not care...They cater for SO MANY "guests" that they cannot not care less about the quality of the food : tough, sinewy BBQ meat the three dinners, potatoes not enough cooked , nearly raw one night...Their cocktails ( Mojito) were a shame (merely fizzy water )." "Fantastic camp"

2 nights Arrived 24 Jan 2016
"We arrived in searing 34 degree heat to find that our tent had some much needed A/C which made it perfect.

Great views, quiet location, excellent tents and the food at Sossusviei Lodge 5 mins away was very good.

Highly recommended." See all these reviews: 21n in Namibia; 5n in South Africa

"An experience not to forget"

1 night Arrived 12 Aug 2014
"If not for my husband calling your office we had to repay for accommodation
After expert Africa got involved we got rooms closer to each other and my son even got a tent with more open space for restrooms.
It was freezing at night...but we had enough blankets.
It is almost like living outdoors.
In warmer season...probably nicer experience.
It was funny that from all other better facilities this one had an outdoor entertainment TV set." See all these reviews: 10n in Namibia

"Desert Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 23 Jun 2014
"Good quality tented camp near the dunes at Sossusvlei. The only downside was that the tents are fairly close together and if you have a large group nearby you know about it..

But the tents themselves were lovely and comfortable and the bar and swimming pool area a bonus. Sitting in the middle of the desert watching the World Cup and having a beer was a bit surreal!

It was nice driving to the nearby Sossusvlei lodge at night for dinner. The food was wonderful and a massive range of things to choose from." See all these reviews: 25n in Namibia

"Oasis in the desert"

2 nights Arrived 7 Mar 2014
"Great base for exploring the dunes. Food at desert lodge was outstanding - went out of their way for vegetarians.

Superb location and the pool and bar are simply beautiful.

Were not told that utensils were at reception though so missed our morning coffees!!!

Decided to go hot air ballooning over the dunes - would highly recommend - this is a must - beautiful sights and lovely champagne breakfast!" See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia; 5n in South Africa

"I just doesn't get better than this"

2 nights Arrived 20 Aug 2013
"When I saw Desert Camp, my heart sank into my shoes, as it was only our second stop and I couldn't imagine how anything else could beat this. You cannot beat the scenery. The tents are set up with everything you might possibly need. We didn't want to leave our area. You are so spoilt out there with serenity that you get annoyed if you even hear a whisper from others in the area.

We made use of the bbq packs they supply and over ordered both nights. Really cheap and tasty salads and meat. I was surprised that not more people lit their camp fires at night and just sat outside and star gazed. It was even hot enough for us to swim in the height of winter. What a magical place."
