"Okaukuejo Camp review"

1 night Arrived 11 Jun 2012
"Our expectations from restcamps were not high, based on our experiences in Kruger. We didn't eat there, as Russell cooked braai for dinner, and we went on a dawn game drive.

The drive guide did not know birds as well as he might, but the trip was fine. The highlight was seeing ten lions just after we started the drive!

The watering hole was very good with a stream of animals.

I think a place offering a braai facility might also provide some basic cutlery and crockery. We managed on plastic stuff bought from the camp shop." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia; 2n in Zimbabwe; 1n in South Africa

"Okaukuejo Camp review"

3 nights Arrived 11 Jun 2012
"The highlight of Okaukeujo is obviously the waterhole which is wonderful - there was always something to see, including rhino every night of our stay (and a baby one!), elephants, antelope, zebra, hyena and birds.

The accommodation is fine - clean, spacious and serviced daily. The braai facility at our bush chalet is a little wasted when no crockery/cutlery/implements are provided. We ate at the camp restaurant - the buffet style food was plentiful and meat cooked to order although the quality of the food was average. Service was better than we had expected, except at reception where the staff were unhelpful.

It does feel a bit like a 1970s holiday camp so don't expect the service you will receive elsewhere in Namibia but it's definitely worth staying here for the waterhole alone." See all these reviews: 10n in Namibia

2 nights Arrived 9 Jun 2012
"I loved this place.

The facilities were excellent, the food was good, the staff were really kind and helpful and the room was fantastic and comfortable with heating/air-conditioning (I was there in June so the nights were cold).

Highly recommended." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Okaukuejo Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 4 Jun 2012
"We had been given the impression that administration could be a little chaotic. In fact this was far from the truth. We were quickly checked in on arrival, and given all the helpful details we required promptly and with care.

Service in the restaurant was prompt, and drinks speedily provided. Meals are all self-service. Food was good, and the range excellent. The only sadness was that there was no fruit available at one early breakfast (5.45 a.m.).

There was no problem using a credit card in the restaurant. (We had heard that this could be a little 'chaotic'.) They were clear that we swiped our own cards to avoid fraud

Spending time at their water hole was a real highlight as well as easy access to the park itself. The waterhole is brilliant during the day as well as at night.

In this location, a safe in our room would have been useful." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Good central base for Etosha"

2 nights Arrived 31 May 2012
"A good central base but due to its size this camp does not have the same feel as many others.

It was pleasant to note that there was little noise around the floodlit waterhole but it was very annoying that people insisted on taking photographs of elephants at very close range (close to the stone wall around the camp) using cameras without first disabling the flash." "Incredible wildlife, great rooms and location"

1 night Arrived 20 May 2012
"I loved Okaukuejo.

The rooms were beautiful -- we were in one of the elephant rooms about 30 m from the watering hole, which was incredibly convenient for early morning and late night wildlife viewing. It was one of the best watering holes we encountered in Etosha. The food was also delicious, and the service was very good.

I would certainly return here." See all these reviews: 10n in Namibia

"Great waterhole at Okaukuejo"

1 night Arrived 9 May 2012
"The camp is a large one and our room was located in a terraced concrete row which didn't look great from the outside but was spacious and well appointed on the inside.

The food was buffet style and not the best compared to other camps we visited. However the camp is well located inside Estosha on the east side where there are many waterholes to visit and wildlife to view.

There is a waterhole at the camp which is floodlit at night which is great and we saw various wildlife there including elephant, rhino (5), giraffe and an owl." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Okaukuejo Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 9 May 2012
"Food was not great (consistently over cooked) and you don't have other choices. Employees (other than wait staff) seemed not to care whether you were there or not. There was no obvious place to go to get information about roads or where animals had been seen.

We enjoyed being at the water hole and being able to get out and drive through the park.

We knew what to expect so none of it was a surprise." See all these reviews: 14n in Botswana; 12n in Namibia

"Okaukuejo Camp review"

1 night Arrived 2 May 2012
"A real difference to the small lodges that we'd stayed in earlier. The check in process was impersonal and the scale of the place was much bigger than we'd previously experienced. When we arrived in our room the toilet was broken. When we returned to reception they already seemed aware of the problem. A member of staff was able to fix it after a couple of hours, but it was hardly the introduction to Etosha we were looking for. The buffet meals were also a disappointment.

However, this was largely made up for by the fabulous watering hole, where many hours were spent watching the elephants, rhinos, zebra etc" See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia
