"Doro Nawas review"
The accomodations were very comfortable although guests should be aware that the climb from the tents to the communal area could be bracing! The food was excllent as well. My only suggestion would be that the lodge offer more nature-oriented activities exploring the daytime and nocturnal plant and animal biology of the desert; we were also unable to compare the lodge and its offerings to the other wilderness properties in the area such as Damaraland Camp, Palmwag Lodge and Desert Rhino camp. All three would have added several hours of driving to our trip." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia
"Sleep under the stars"
Pool area was small, but chic and sophisticated. The tracking (and finding) of the desert elephants was very interesting and enjoyable. Guide (Peter) was extremely pleasant and knowlegable. The fireplace in the common area was very cool and appreciated in the evening.
Our room had a leak under one of the basins and the showers were lacking hot water." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

The legal waiver you are asked to sign on arrival is a bit much and I noticed that nobody else had signed it. I appreciate that there are risks to being in Africa but the hosts must take some responsibility as well as the guests.
The maintenance man did sort out a puncture for me very quickly and efficiently.
The swimming pool was rather green and not useable." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia
"Doro Nawas review"
Great almost 360 degree views from the restaurant, and great to swim in the pool looking straight out onto the plains, not to mention the resident pool 'bat'!
The food was adequate - but not the same choice as experienced at Taleni & Sossusvlei. Restaurant staff were somehow a little subdued - but possibly only because they were being polite! Felt that the lodge lacked a focal point - could have done with a more enclosed, cost coffee/tea point in centre of restaurant to encourage interaction between the guests." The patio windows opened and the beds could be rolled out of the chalet onto the terrace for sleeping under the stars. There is an one-lane wide exercise pool - a new experience of swimming under the stars in the open.
This is also a lodge with no fences and animals are free to roam by. The views from the main building on the koppie were spectacular.
The food was very good, with vegetarian option on request - the manager asked on arrival.
Well placed for petrified forest, rock paintings at Twyfelfontein and Organ Pipes rock formation" See all these reviews: 8n in Namibia

We still can't believe how close we were able to get to the elephants." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

The rooms were the best we stayed in. 1/3 of the round building is outside, separated by glass doors from the inside. These can be pulled back and the bed rolled outside so we slept under the stars both nights. Each room is totally private with a great view - the outside shower (additional to the inside one) was a bonus.
Staff were very friendly and smiley and the evening (short) singing and dancing were very good.
Morning game drive tracking desert adapted elephants
Enjoyable but expensive....
We had pre booked the morning elephant drive. This was enjoyable but it is expensive for what it is. Difficult to tell how the 'desert adapted' elephants differed from those in Etosha especially as they were not in the desert when we saw them!
A word of warning - on leaving Doro Nawas to go to Etosha we wanted to go to the Petrified Forest. We stopped at the sign on the road, paid N$30 each (4 of us) and walked round with a guide, surprised at how broken up the petrified trees were (like logs lined up!!). With hindsight the fact that it took 10 minutes when the guidebook said an hour and the sale of bits of the forest should have warned us! 20 minutes later we came across the proper site with official entry, guides etc. We had to laugh but it's worth letting others know to wait until they come to the official site (white writing on a brown metal sign rather than handpainted signs at the side of the road) - having looked at others' photos I think it's a lot more impressive than the bits we saw!!!"
