"Khowarib Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 20 Nov 2023
"Very quirky and rustic lodge in a remote area. Accommodation was a tented room overlooking the (barely flowing) river, and with an attached walled fully outside bathroom.

The food was good here and the pool was very welcome in the significant heat.

Staff were very helpful with charging our electronics when we lost our adaptor.

We made our own plans to visit a Himba village just south of Sesfontein and also visited Sesfontein Fort (now converted to a hotel) for lunch.

Would definitely recommend a visit to this remote area, staying at Khowarib." See all these reviews: 23n in Namibia

"Interesting tented rooms overlooking a small brook, with plenty of bird-life.
Not many activities and both management and staff seemed a little uninterested, although efficient.
I'm not sure there is much point in staying unless en-route to the North." See all these reviews: 30n in Namibia

"Khowarib Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 27 May 2022
"Lovely accommodation and nice location.

Suspect they would have preferred we took up the tours, but we walked upriver ourselves. Food patchy - have never had a sausage roll served for starters with masterchef swirls.....and when desert was running out we were served half a panna cotta each with no explanation. Filled out the feedback form and they were a tad combative - of course the holiday was booked a couple of years ago and we expected internet.

There is no internet here which was the worst of any place we stayed - they have cancelled it because of the cost and are not planning to reinstate." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"Khowarib Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 22 Jul 2021
"We arrived after two nights at Mowani Mountain Camp
A first impression is a bit disappointing
The lobby and dining room are nice and the rooms are much less
I will note that this is a first impression we got used to after a while
On the day of our arrival we jumped to Ongongo Waterfall Campsite
And we visited Himba back straight for dinner
The next day we took a full day of activity to locate elephants in the Huanib River- just amazing
That is why the lodge serves as an excellent and special spot for those who want to get to the area
The tour is well worth the initial impression" See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Khowarib Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 18 Oct 2018
"The lodge at Khowarib was trying hard to be good.

Took visit trip to Himba village, for cultural exchange. Well worth the excursion. Not sure how this could have been improved, it was a bit awkward, the women seemed to just be enduring the exchange. The children were adorable. Not sure what their collective future will be. There were no men in the village.

Fascinating part of Namibia, I would have liked to spend more time a bit further north & west, next time!. Even though the development is more rudimentary. I read a great book, An Arid Eden by Garth Owen-Smith about the history of this area, highly recommend it." See all these reviews: 21n in Namibia

"Just ask Waylon !!!!!"

2 nights Arrived 15 Sep 2014
"We read some reports about this place that were not very flattering ,But we had a great time and it was all because of Waylon

WE had a full day rhino tracking in the palmwag concession with Waylon Alas we saw not one rhino but we did see leopard two groups of lions and loads of other wildlife and we did some walking in some of the most beautiful places imaginable A real Gem of a place !!

But the star of the show was the boy Waylon his knowledge and enthusiasm were boundless" See all these reviews: 21n in Namibia; 3n in Botswana

"Khowarib Lodge review"

3 nights Arrived 19 Jul 2011
"Khowarib lodge is beautifully situated and of the highest standard. The new lodge has been lovingly built by the owner with wonderful taste and attention to detail. Service and food were excellent, the bar was well stocked, and just a great place to unwind.

Cesar , the owner, treated to us to a day-long safari in beautiful Kaoko land. He impressed us with his knowledge of the terrain and wildlife. Cesar is an engaging and highly energetic person and a joy to spend a day with. The Himba visit lacked authenticity and was overly commercial.

Overall highly recommended." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia; 2n in Botswana

"Khowarib Lodge review"

3 nights Arrived 16 Oct 2010
"This is a fairly new lodge which at first sight looks very impressive but they need to iron out a couple of problems.

It was the only location where we were troubled by mosquitoes and the open air bathrooms had no protection. There seemed to be a high turnover of local staff and there seemed to be too many managers who liked to stand drinking at the bar.

The owner seemed to have vast experience and skill in running safari trips and we had the most wonderful day driving down the Hoanib river bed. The trip to the Himba village was a little disappointing with no sign of normal village life and the impression was of a place to sell trinkets.

We left here a day early.

Elephant tracking - Hoanib Riverbed: This was a superb day out. 2 of us with a knowledgeable driver and Landcruiser.

He was unstinting with his time and information and was able to find the elephants although they had moved around quite a bit. Nice lunch as well.

Himba excursion: We felt that this was all a bit false and it might be being overdone now. No sign of village life but plenty of trinkets for sale. The guide had a good knowledge of the culture." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia
