"As previously visited, everything to high std"

2 nights Arrived 5 Sep 2010
"Nice lodges, good bathroom facilities, lovely personal touches (notes on turned down bed to sleep well!)

Lady manager most friendly & attentive, her husband, less so. Excellent staff, wonderful songsfrom waiting staff. Mchael the guide led a great safari drive to see Desert Elephants. Afternoon tea & cake nice touch.

Catered well for veggies. Vsited by scorpion at one evenin meal, caused great amusement !

Need to be advised to take money on drive, as we pass interesting local artifacts being sold !" See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Not as good as it thinks it is"

2 nights Arrived 26 Aug 2010
"At first sight, Doro Nawas does not look very appealing - the main building looks like a burned castle from a distance. Inside the building is very differnt - attractive and airy with a wrap around veranda with spectacular views.

The rooms here are stunning. They are large with big bathrooms, and indoor and outdoor shower and huge private verandas - we couldn't see another buiding from ours! It was a bit to cold at night to wheel the beds out onto the veranda unfortunately.

What let the place down was the atmosphere and food. The lodge seemed more geared up for big tour groups rather than couples or families and although the staff were polite, the service was a bit sloppy. They tried hard with the food, but the standard of cooking was disappointing.

If they improve on these, Doro Nawas would be fantastic." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

Outside shower choice and beds which can be rolled out under the stars......fantastic. Very spacious accommodation, excellent bathrooms all first rate and well designed, very comfortable.

Food excellent and a highlight was being entertained by staff after dinner." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Beautiful location with spectacular views.

Friendly atmosphere, lovely staff. Amazing accomodation.....loved the outdoor shower!!

Great drive with 'Ignatieus' to track the elephants.....very successful. Sundowners from a fantastic view point complete with ponchos to ward off the cold wind. The staff singing after dinner was very enjoyable and entertaining." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Doro Nawas review"

2 nights Arrived 21 Aug 2010
"Doro Nawas is a place that sneaks up on you. We arrived here thinking we had come to the end of the world. The lodge sits in an very stark landscape, with distant views but very little sign of life in the desert. During our visit we tracked the desert elephants (followed a family of a dozen or so) and also visited Twyfelfonten, both with Michael. He was friendly, very knowledgeable and also showed us some aspects of the local population and their lives. With low initial expectations on arrival at Doro Nawas we enjoyed a very interesting and busy couple of days.

The accomodations were very comfortable although guests should be aware that the climb from the tents to the communal area could be bracing! The food was excllent as well. My only suggestion would be that the lodge offer more nature-oriented activities exploring the daytime and nocturnal plant and animal biology of the desert; we were also unable to compare the lodge and its offerings to the other wilderness properties in the area such as Damaraland Camp, Palmwag Lodge and Desert Rhino camp. All three would have added several hours of driving to our trip." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"Sleep under the stars"

2 nights Arrived 20 Aug 2010
"Very remote location. Rooms were pretty spacious and the deck/verandas were extremely cool in that they accomodated the beds (which were on wheels) to be rolled out for sleeping under the stars.

Pool area was small, but chic and sophisticated. The tracking (and finding) of the desert elephants was very interesting and enjoyable. Guide (Peter) was extremely pleasant and knowlegable. The fireplace in the common area was very cool and appreciated in the evening.

Our room had a leak under one of the basins and the showers were lacking hot water." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Doro Nawas"

2 nights Arrived 13 Aug 2010
"Mostly good. We did a bush walk and elephant tracking and they were outstanding. Our guide, Michael, could not have been more helpful. Other staff were not quite as helpful although we loved the singing on the last night.

The legal waiver you are asked to sign on arrival is a bit much and I noticed that nobody else had signed it. I appreciate that there are risks to being in Africa but the hosts must take some responsibility as well as the guests.

The maintenance man did sort out a puncture for me very quickly and efficiently.

The swimming pool was rather green and not useable." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"Doro Nawas review"

1 night Arrived 12 Aug 2010
"Excellent luxury 'chalets' with curtained-off bathroom and shower and separate enclosed toilet, plus large raised stone 'verandah' allowing you to sleep outside if the urge took you!

Great almost 360 degree views from the restaurant, and great to swim in the pool looking straight out onto the plains, not to mention the resident pool 'bat'!

The food was adequate - but not the same choice as experienced at Taleni & Sossusvlei. Restaurant staff were somehow a little subdued - but possibly only because they were being polite! Felt that the lodge lacked a focal point - could have done with a more enclosed, cost coffee/tea point in centre of restaurant to encourage interaction between the guests."
