My Aug 2010 trip
Namibia between 12 Aug 2010 and 30 Aug 2010
In the context of an excellent holiday - a few pieces of feedback
1. I think we should have been recommended a 4x4 car - hadn't realised what the roads were like, and would definitely have appreciated that! We were consistently the only guests at lodges who were in a small car
2. Swokupmund was not worth visiting. .The purpose of our trip was to see the country, not a seaside resort, so we had always seen this as simply a stopover. During the planning of the holiday, we'd pushed quite hard for just a one night stop over there, but Expert Africa had been quite insistent that we would need 2. This was a wasted day, which was disappointing. We should have either been allowed to take the one night, or instead, should have taken 2 separate nights out in the countryside.
Recommendation - try to understand what's important for people's holidays (for us towns were absolutely not important)
3. Palmwag was disappointing"

But very uninspiring - very much a place to put your head down rather than a place to enjoy staying at
Felt that owner was sometines rather disrespectful to staff - they may have been inexperienced, but they were clearly trying really hard, and not sure owner was being too kind to them. Made me feel quite uncomfortable."

Palmwag Lodge
"Palmwag Lodge review"
Other than this, Palmwag was very disappointing, and we wished that we had simply stayed for that overnight. Fabulous location, but the whole place needs a complete overhaul - physically and managerially.
Physically - the facilities were comfortable, but fell well short of the other locations we stayed in.
The service was consistently very poor.
For example, our first night was an overnight camp. When we arrived, we were told to take a seat in the cafe and the guide would come to meet us. 4 hours later, no one had come. It took 4 attempts before anyone would tell us what was going on - they eventually admitted that the guide wouldn't arrive for a further 2 hours. By this stage we'd missed the opportunity to take any of the activities. Had we been told we had a 6 hour wait - we would have gone and done something (the purpose of hte holiday). Instead we wasted an entire day waiting for something that would never turn up!
Another example - they got our bill wrong 3 times when we checked out.
Overall - the general attitude of the staff was one of not caring. No hint of concern when we were clearly unhappy, no sense of urgency to help out, and seemingly no pride in standards. This was totally the opposite atmosphere to everywhere else we stayed - typically characterised by happy staff with high energy. This leads me to believe that there is a real leadership & management failing here."

Very high standards
Excellent service
Wonderfully relaxing
Can't speak too highly
They looked after my husband wonderfully when he injured himself badly, and would have been delighted to extend our stay had he not been able to travel!"

"Schoeman's Skeleton Coast Safaris review"
The trip was stunning, from beginning to end. Andre was an excellent guide - I learnt more in those 4 days than I have for a long time!
Too many highlights to list them all
The most surprising was on the first night when Andre produced an enormous telescope and gave us a tour of the universe (amazing!)
The most amusing was Andre's attitude when we were temporarily delayed in our elephant hunting: 'of course we're not stuck. being stuck is ja state of mind' (we spent the next 45 mins digging the landrover out of the mud)"
