"Great rooms and location"

1 night Arrived 23 Jul 2014
"After the long drive from Nhoma, the really lovely airconditioned rooms and facilities here as well as great terrace over the river were so welcome.

We all thought it was a great stopover....a real chill out place." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia; 3n in Zimbabwe

"A very attractive lodge with beautiful views over the river.

Buffet dinner was very good in the very new main building. It also has a big, well stocked bar." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Nice lodge on the Kavango River"

1 night Arrived 24 May 2014
"Excellent lodge for an overnight stop on the way to Caprivi. Nice views of the river and simple but excellent food.

The drive from the main road to the lodge was a bit tricky, the main track was flooded and we had to ring the lodge to send someone out to guide us along an alternative route." See all these reviews: 21n in Namibia

"Hakusembe Lodge review"

1 night Arrived 27 Mar 2014
"To reach this lodge you have to drive a long way on a dirt road which has several forks, lots of mud and at one stage was completely flooded for about 100m. There were no signs to say which way to go to get around the mud and the flood. When we left, were advised not to take detours around the flood/mud but I was so doubtful that I asked for a guide to show us the best way to get out - he was so used to the poor state of the road that he detoured around the flood - I can only imagine that they have become used to it, and assume that every customer knows how to get there despite the lack of any signs.

We were booked for B&B but it was fairly impractical to find an evening meal anywhere else. Thankfully they do a (chargeable) evening meal which was unexpected and welcome. The room was fine, and the evening meal (buffet) was good. But the service at breakfast was very poor.

As an overnight journey-breaker it was just about adequate but if theres an alternative I'd advise against going there - unless they at least sort out the dirt track and soem signs." See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia; 4n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Great views of Angola across the river"

1 night Arrived 6 Jan 2014
"We used Hakusembe for one night in transit from Caprivi to Etosha. It has been greatly enlarged with 15 new chalets which had just been opened only a few weeks before, making it much larger than most such camps with 22 chalets (compared with 7 chalets earlier).

Although this was the low season the occupancy seemed surprisingly high and the restaurant was still being enlarged to cope with the change of scale and was quite congested after our earlier experience in much smaller safari lodges. However the staff were very charming, our brand new chalet was well appointed and attractive and we had an enjoyable sundowner river trip on the Kavango River which the Lodge overlooks (the river forms the border with Angola)." "Very friendly service"

1 night Arrived 6 Oct 2013
"This had a location to die for, on the banks of the Okavango river, several miles upstream from Rundu, and with Angola on the other side of the river.

We could not have been made more welcome - exceptionally friendly staff throughout. Although there wasn't a lot to do in the area, the lodge served as an excellent stopping off point between Etosha and the Zambezi region.

Nice accommodation in a hut with air conditioning." See all these reviews: 8n in Namibia; 7n in Zambia; 2n in Zimbabwe; 2n in Botswana

"Loved Hakusembe"

1 night Arrived 11 Sep 2013
"A very friendly relaxed place to visit. Two nights would have been good.
The manager and his wife do their utmost to make guests comfortable.
Accommodation units face the river and all have outdoor seats. Coffee arrived outside the door at around 7am.
Staff are friendly and helpful. The river trip was fascinating, with glimpses into rural riverside life in Angola.
What's not to like?" See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia; 2n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Water,water everywhere....."

1 night Arrived 1 Sep 2013
"Warm welcome, clean well decorated room

We went on a sunset cruise - actually champagne sunset cruise according to the bill the next day - offered beer and wine - and thought it overpriced when we got the bill (asked the cost of any 'extras' after this experience! )

A pleasant meander down the river however the driver couldn't tell us the names of some of the birds and seemed to ahve very little knowledge or English which doesn't worry us but he seemed to have very little knowledge full stop - felt this was a management issue as the guy was try his best" See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia; 5n in Botswana

"Hakusembe Lodge review"

1 night Arrived 25 Jul 2013
"Good stopover on the way to the Caprivi region.
Typical stay is one night.
Nice setting on the Okavango river looking over the Angolan side and the sunset.
Geographically, it was interesting to be at the beginning of our Okavango water experience after all the sand.

I recommend the sunset boat trip and a visit to the local living museum village (Mbunza).
Very close to Rhundu if you need to buy provisions for a road trip.

We were given the villa instead of a bungalow - nice and roomy - closet was upstairs so we used the banister and chair downstairs. Television didn't work - villa interior was a bizarre set up." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia; 6n in Botswana; 3n in Zimbabwe
