Zambezi Queen

About Zambezi Queen

The luxurious Zambezi Queen offers two- and three-day cruises on the Chobe River beside Botswana’s Chobe National Park.

At 45m long and three storeys high, this river cruiser provides a relaxed way to explore the Chobe River away from the many lodges and hotels in the Kasane area. Its base, not far from the Victoria Falls and very close to Kasane International Airport, makes the boat a convenient addition to trips to Botswana's Okavango Delta, Namibia's Caprivi Strip or Zambia and Zimbabwe's Victoria Falls.

The Zambezi Queen offers an intimate and luxurious way to escape, to a large degree, from the often crowded Chobe riverfront area. Expect high levels of service in this atypical safari lodging which we think could make a great way to end a safari – particularly for those who are used to the finer things in life. For us, the river itself is the main draw. While game drives are an option, a wide variety of wildlife can be seen from the boat without the hassle of clearing immigration and transferring to a 4WD vehicle.

Caprivi Strip in January

January marks the heart of the rainy season in the Caprivi Strip. The Zambezi and Kwando rivers swell, nourishing the lush landscapes of Bwabwata and Mudumu National Parks. Rainfall can be heavy but localised, with temperatures around 30°C/86°F.

The verdant environment makes a refreshing change, especially in typically drier areas. Birdlife is abundant, with many species in full breeding plumage and migratory birds present in force. In Nkasa Rupara National Park, the abundant water allows wildlife to disperse, making it more challenging to spot. However, boat cruises along the major rivers offer excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and birdwatching.

  • Variable weather: hot and dry or humid with rain
  • Occasional localised thunderstorms in the region
  • Abundant birdlife, especially migratory species
  • Wildlife dispersed, harder to spot in Bwabwata
  • Few tourists, low rates at lodges and camps

Helicopter Flight - Botswana

Helicopter Flight - Botswana

Various: from 30 minutes to half a day.

Low-flying, agile and offering superb views, helicopters are an ideal way to move around the Okavango Delta. You can use them instead of fixed-wing inter-lodge transfers or as an addition to other wildlife watching activities, and of course, helicopters can hover to allow that perfect pic, whereas fixed-wings can’t.
