"Taranga Safari Lodge review"

1 night Arrived 23 May 2023
"We sadly were very dissapointed with Taranga and were glad it was only a one night stop.

The staff did not seem a happy bunch - the general atmosphere was flat and one felt that the staff really did not appear bothered whether we were there or not - rather highlighted when we were the last to dinner and there was no table for us! We had to wait some time whilst they found a table and laid it... no apology forthcoming. The food was very average too - breakfast was awful.

The room was tired and tatty - and a toilet in the same area is really not for us - is it for anyone?

The river side bar sounded so idyllic - but was very worn out and the bar guy could not have been less interested in his job." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia; 3n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe

"A lovely surprise! '"

1 night Arrived 15 May 2022
"Having read a number of reviews of this lodge, it was the one on our trip that we weren’t really looking forward to but we needed an overnight stop in the middle of a very long drive.

We were warmly welcomed by Marta and later spent time chatting to her while we were having a drink, she was really engaging and informative about the daily lives of the local people. Our room was clean, tidy and spacious. The bathroom area is hidden behind the bedroom/living area but is otherwise open; there are no doors to separate it from the rest of the internal space.

A short walk through pleasant gardens brought us to the floating bar where we had a couple of drinks while watching locals fish as the sun came down. It was a really lovely experience. We did not see any wildlife (other than a few birds) but actually it gave us time to process all that we had done and and gave us time to recharge before going on to do more wildlife watching. Our dinner was of a good standard, some of the waiting staff seemed a little self-conscious in their use of English but all seemed to understand any request and were eager to please.

On leaving, our bill was prepared quickly (and accurately) and a last minute request for a lunch pack was catered for quickly and at a very reasonable price.

I would recommend this lodge and would choose to stay here again should we need an overnight stay in the general area." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia; 3n in Botswana

"Great boat trip at Taranga"

1 night Arrived 15 Oct 2018
"We were the only guest at the lodge so it felt sometimes a bit inconvenient with all staff working for you. Staff was really nice and polite and did their utmost to give us a great feeling. Special thanks for the surprise at our tent for our anniversary and my husbands birthday (champagne)

Boat trip was really nice and esp as the local people are also at the river, fishing, washing, kids having fun. so more than wild life. saw lots of birding.

small tip;
- Welcome by the receptionist; she was very friendly, summarized all important details of the lodge, then brought us outside on the you do (guest experience) and had no authenticity." See all these reviews: 14n in Botswana; 4n in Namibia; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Nice tents but the whole experience was rather underwhelming.

Staff seemed lacking confidence, there was little flexibility and the ordered lunch bags never appeared.

Sundown cruise on the river was very good with lots of kingfishers (Giant, Pied and others) to see and with expert commentary" See all these reviews: 9n in Namibia; 3n in Botswana

"Stunning location"

1 night Arrived 24 Dec 2017
"We were here for Christmas day, perhaps more could have been made of it as we were all far from our families but that aside it was a beautiful setting, we loved the boat moored below the lodge for a sundowner.

The staff were friendly & helpful. We felt quite safe in very substantial tents & the view & deck was spectacular.

The meals were fine but only enough was cooked for the guests present - we were told we could have one chop each for example! No seconds!!" See all these reviews: 27n in Namibia; 1n in Botswana

"Taranga Safari Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 10 Sep 2017
"Taranga is described as "stylish" but in our opinion style has triumphed over function. Our tented room was big but totally impractical, with no storage space & a curiously located WC.

The small grounds were rather boring, apart from the river front, with no animal life & very badly signposted. We took a river trip which was quite interesting but not exceptional.

It is hard to see how it can be described as a "Safari Lodge"" See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia; 5n in Botswana
