Serengeti Migration Area

The Serengeti is one of Africa’s most captivating safari areas.

Watch out for Leopards lazily laying on trees...

...or spot some giraffes on the wide, open plains.

...constantly moving in a huge loop, following the rains to find the replenished grasses.

"Fantastic bush and wildlife experience "

I visited Tanzania and 1 other country between 30 Jul 2018 and 17 Aug 2018
"The entire trip was impeccably organised by Expert Africa. Travellers should be aware that they do not book international flights or arrange travel insurance. End July/August is a splendid time to go on safari in Tanzania; we came across no mosquitos and few Tsetse flies. The three lodges we stayed at were each very different in feel and location and this made a fascinating two week safari with four nights at each lodge, followed by a week in Zanzibar. With two game drives a day one is often out in the bush for up to 12 hours a day and one has to be prepared to be in the jeeps for this length of time, as the opportunities for getting out are very limited because of safety. The bush is, of course, wild and the going often rough, so first time safari goers need to be prepared to be thrown around in jeeps (but with seat belts!).

The game viewing at this time of year is magnificent and we saw several crossings of the wildebeast in the Mara river, quite a few prides of lions in the Ruaha, including the full pride of 13 at one point and two close up sightings of an entire pack of wild dogs at Beho Beho. Three separate leopard sightings in the Serengeti were very special.

Zanzibar is the ideal place to wind down after a safari but one needs to choose one's hotel carefully according to what atmosphere and recreations one wants. Near Stone Town, or not, swimable beach, or not, isolated or not. Some of the taxi and shuttle drivers can be quite on the wild side, but it is the nature of the island!

Our expectations were more than fulfilled on this magical trip." Read full review: 18 nights in Africa; 12 on a Tanzania safari

"A Fantastic Vacation!"

I visited Tanzania between 21 Jul 2018 and 8 Aug 2018
"This was our 4th visit to southern/eastern Africa, and although each trip has been different and wonderful, this was probably our best trip yet.

The highlight was our time spent at Kichaka in Ruaha, since walking safaris are our favorite activity. Owner/Guide Andrew Molinare (Moli) gets rave reviews, and deserves every one of them.

We visited 5 parks and camps, with significant travel distances involved. Expert Africa did a fantastic job coordinating all the internal flights with Coastal Aviation, and everything went extremely smoothly." Read full review: 18 nights in Africa; 18 on a Tanzania safari

" Northern Serengeti"

I visited Tanzania between 21 Jun 2018 and 25 Jun 2018
"This past trip to Africa really gave me a new perspective on what the northern part of the Serengeti has to offer. There is a particular beauty and wildness in this part of the park which I enjoyed. Lemala Kuria Hills camp was so comfortable and the setting so beautiful, I enjoyed every moment that I was there and truly bathed in the privacy that I had with the location of my tent.
On the game drives you could see that there was so much food and space for the animals and therefore the herds were much larger than what I have become accustomed to in the Serengeti. For instance, I would see herds of 50 to 70 topi, hundreds of Thompson gazell, large harems of impala; it was spectacular." Read full review: 4 nights in Africa; 4 on a Tanzania safari

"Rwanda and Tanzania March 2018"

I visited Rwanda and 1 other country between 3 Mar 2018 and 17 Mar 2018
"The biggest issue with comfort for the trip was that we were given an older vehicle which is quite uncomfortable from the beginning of the trip until we reached Kivu lake. At Kivu Lake, three days into the Rwanda part, I let Expert Africa know about my concerns regarding the possible safety issues of the vehicle as well as the comfort issues. I had an almost immediate reply from Expert Africa who contacted the tour organizer, Primate Safaris in Rwanda. They met us the next day with a new vehicle for the rest of the trip.

The entire planning of the trip took multiple conversations and emails with the Expert Africa team. They were extremely helpful and worked with us until we found a trip that we thought would meet our desired experience. I believe we had seven iterations before finally choosing the last one.

I would have mixed feelings about going during rainy season again. It was less crowded, which was quite nice. A few plans did get rained out or had to be changed.

The few hotels we stayed at in between various parts of the trip were used only for several hours and simpler, less expensive accommodations would probably have sufficed quite well.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

We did not seek other quotes for the trip.

Our previous trip to Zambia with Expert Africa impressed us so much, that we only used them to arrange this tour for us. It was a good decision." Read full review: 14 nights in Africa; 8 on a Rwanda safari

"Pining for what could have been..."

I visited Tanzania between 14 Feb 2018 and 24 Feb 2018
"I look forward to my regular forays into Southern and Eastern Africa, a passion I've been pursuing for over 30 years and where I normally enjoy every last minute of my stay. So it pains me to state that, despite the high quality of all the arrangements: camps, transfers, internal flights, this was one trip I did not enjoy.

The reason was the infestation of tsetse flies through the Lake Manyara/Tarangire/Serengeti area. These are not just a nuisance; they are a major problem, turning every game drive into a very painful and distressing endurance test. Totally impervious to any kind of insect repellent, swarms of tsetse flies descend upon people persistently biting at will on both uncovered and covered skin. Yes, they bite through your clothes, too. I ended up with my entire skin a mass burning welts - something that went from simple discomfort to sheer pain, only temporarily relieved by spells under cold showers, and eventually, towards the end of my trip, by some anti-histaminic pills and cream provided by the manageress at Lamai Serengeti.

I was not warned of this, something I find disconcerting from an outfit that advertises itself as Expert Africa and provides specialist consultants for each area. Surely clients are entitled to expect full and honest advice?" Read full review: 10 nights in Africa; 10 on a Tanzania safari

"My Feb 2018 trip"

I visited Tanzania and 1 other country between 9 Feb 2018 and 22 Feb 2018
"Considering all the details involved in booking this trip, I was extremely satisfied from my initial phone call, to the day I returned home.

I think Justin returned my calls and replied to my emails within 10 minutes, and there were a lot of them! And thanks for procuring the binocs! The trip he planned turned out as perfect as it could be. The Rhotia Valley stay was really a genius choice. As a physician, I bonded with the owners and was invited to join them for meals so we could continue our conversations. I expect to have an ongoing relationship with them, and hope to return.

I see no place to comment specifically on my guide, so I’ll do that here. Nathoo was incredible. He knew every plant, animal, constellation. I had my Swahili lessons while driving around. There can’t possibly be anyone better!

I would say this trip exceeded my expectations, and was worth every penny.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

No, I don’t!" Read full review: 13 nights in Africa; 7 on a Tanzania safari
