"Kulala Desert Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 20 Sep 2011
"Lovely location. Very friendly staff - the man responsible for the lodge vehicles came to find us to tell us about a slow puncture on our hire car and then not only changed the wheel, but repaired the tyre.

Comfortable room with good veranda for sitting and reading. Lovely views from main building" See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"under the stars at Kulala"

2 nights Arrived 4 Sep 2011
"Staff very friendly and helpful, especially Solomon the guide, with whom we enjoyed wonderful sundowners.
Food was ok, but tried too hard, it would have been beter to keep it more basic and wholesome. The afternoon cakes were a treat to look forward to.

Sleeping on roof, under the stars was an experience to remember.
We think the dunes visit would have benefited from a very early start to capture the early morning shadows." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Everyone very helpful and attentive. Great accommodation in individual 'chalets' (including hot water bottles for the cool nights), wonderful, atmospheric location and very nice food. Great trip with excellent guiding to the dunes.

It would be helpful to put some gravel on the paths to the rooms rather than mostly sand." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"View from Kulala to Dune no. 1"

2 nights Arrived 6 Jul 2011
"Absolutely amazing location. It really is in the middle of nowhere, just opposite dune number one. We had booked a sunrise trip into Soussouvlei, the guide was knowledgeable and continuously pointed out animal tracks and highlighted various plants. We were lucky in that the amount of rain they had received this year was already more than 4 times the average yearly amount, which resulted in an amazing amount of plants even on the dunes and Soussouvlei was still flooded and full of animals.

The food on the first night was great, however, on the second night both presentation and quality of food were seriously below par. The rooms can get really cold, there is no air-conditioning or heating, which we liked as we wanted to minimize our environmental impact. They supply hot water bottles in the evening, which was a really nice touch.

We expected a lot from this lodge and it came up to par, however, the bathrooms would benefit from a whitewash." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia

"Fiftieth Birthday to Remember at Kulala"

2 nights Arrived 2 Jul 2011
"We stayed at Kulala Desert Lodge a few years ago, and decided that we would like to return there to celebrate a 50th birthday. It was certainly a good choice. The management and staff were all wonderful. Everyone was so friendly, helpful and competent. We had comfortable accommodation with lovely views, good excursions, and excellent food and service.

To celebrate the birthday, we enjoyed a sunrise trip into Sossusvlei and lovely afternoon nature drive with a "sundowner". The highlight of the holiday happened that evening when the lodge staff surprised us by bringing in a birthday cake during dinner. The staff sang a beautiful rendition of "happy birthday" and started dancing. The performance was wonderful, and we were very touched by the very kind and thoughtful gesture. The singing and dancing continued as guests joined in. It was a wonderful surprise, and a very memorable day.

Excursions from Kulala Desert Lodge
We had an enjoyable excursion into Sossusvlei. The scenery is beautiful. We have done this trip before, however on this occasion we experienced the delightful view of water in the vlei and increased vegetation and wildlife. On our previous trips it has been completely dry. The walk to Dead Vlei is worthwhile for the amazing scenery.

On our last visit the lodge used an open sided vehicle. The vehicles have been replaced by glass sided vehicles. This is good from the perspective of keeping the biting cold and wind out during the early morning, but it does rattle a bit!" See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Kulala Desert Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 16 Jun 2011
"The main attraction was the proximity to the dunes and the easy access into the park.

The trip to the dunes was well worthwhile and the climb up the dune was harder than expected. We did have a problem when the electrics in our chalet blew the fuses but the staff were really good in fixing things. We took the trip to Sesriem Canyon - something we could have done in our own vehicle. This was a little of an anti-climax after Fish River." See all these reviews: 19n in Namibia
