My Oct 2011 trip
Namibia between 5 Oct 2011 and 23 Oct 2011
"Overall the trip went very well, some places we enjoyed more than others but that is to be expected. We did feel that we should have been encouraged more to take a 4x4, as we did find that we had to drive quite carefully, which added to the journey times and it would have been more comfortable and less tiring on the gravel/sand roads.
Although we do not have any mobility problems, I do think advise should be given about the unfriendly approach and general uneven terrain at Doro Nawas."

"A very friendly lodge with good guides and excellent food, served direct to your table and beautifully presented. Lovely rooms but very hot as there is no air conditioning and the fan is noisy and not very efficient."

"A friendly guesthouse set in lovely gardens and within easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants and very easy to find on arrival. The bedroom was a good size and it was nice to have a fridge and TV in the room.
The bathroom however was rather small and the layout did not work very well."

Doro Nawas

"First impressions were not good as you arrive after a long hot drive in front of an austere building and you then have to climb some steep uneven steps to get into reception. Then after registration you are led back down the uneven track to your lodge and once they have unloaded the luggage you have to drive the car to the parking lot and walk back, again, over uneven paths. Surely this could be refined?
However the rooms are superb and although we didn't, you could roll your bed outside at night. Again there was no air conditioning but the fan was efficient and quiet.
Food was disappointing as the main course was buffet style and not particularly interesting. Overall not very well run and no obvious sign of any management."

"This camp was much better than we were expecting and having a waterhole chalet was worth the extra money as it made it so easy to just pop outside to see the ever changing wildlife.
Registration is very bureaucratic and the service was chaotic but the food was acceptable."

"We had not realised that lunch was included on the day of arrival so when we arrived at 1.30 we were presented with lunch at 2.30, followed by tea at 3.30, before going out cheetah spotting at 4pm! If we had realised we could have easily arrived earlier..
The two activities were very well organised and our guide was superb. We were upgraded to a View Room, which was beautiful but unfortunately we had very little time to sit and enjoy it.
The food and service were excellent."

"We spent 2 nights in the Heritage Hotel Cape Town, where we have stayed before, followed by 2 nights in Hermanus, where we stayed in The Ocean Eleven Guesthouse, which was superb. Our last two nights were spent in Paarl at the Nwanedi Country Lodge, which unfortunately is planning to close and become a rehabilitation clinic at the end of November 2011.

My only adverse comment is that no one helped with the luggage and there are quite a few steps, both up and down, to contend with."
