Giraffe Manor: video gallery

Giraffe Manor: picture gallery

Giraffe Manor is a unique and delightful place to stay in Nairobi.
The main house was built in the 1930s after the style of a Scottish hunting lodge.
Behind the Manor House, across a pleasant courtyard, stands an annexe, the recently built Garden Manor.
Meals can be taken in the courtyard…
…outside the breakfast room…
…where giraffes visit to be fed…
…and guests have to take turns to eat, feed the megafauna and take photos of each other.
It's a real sun trap here on a chilly morning.
The Manor House has a grand hallway…
…with a double staircase and towering ceiling.
Parts of the house feel quite formal, such as this dining room…
…while the main lounge has the slightly cluttered informality of a country house drawing room.
There are interesting, mostly giraffe-dominated paintings…
…and ephemera all over the house.
All Giraffe Manor's rooms are named, mostly after Rothschild giraffes who have lived here.
Daisy's Room has two beds…
…but can either be a double or twin room…
…and has a dual aspect.
It shares with Betty's Room a giraffe-level patio…
…above the breakfast room.
If you're in Betty's or Jock's room, you'll probably receive an unusual early morning call.
Marlon's Room can be either a twin or a double…
…and has the traditionally styled en-suite bathroom of most of the Manor House rooms.
Jock's room is on the manor's south-east corner, with Marlon's room and Lynn's room to its north.
Like several other rooms, it's easy to feed the giraffes in the morning from Jock's Room.
The striking Karen Blixen suite has a double height main room, with twin beds in the mezzanine…
…and a gorgeous, modern bathroom.
The Karen Blixen suite is to the rear of the main manor, off the courtyard, behind Lynn's Room.
Like the main house, the Garden Manor has a comfy sitting room…
…for guests to share.
On the Garden Manor's first floor are Arlene's Room, a double…
…the twin or double Helen's Room…
and the very flexible Kelly's Room…
…which can be a double or twin…
and has a beautiful bathroom with a skylight…
…and a stunning Kitengela glass window.
The Garden Manor, which is beautifully lit at night…
…has two new rooms, Ed and Salma, on its east side, which opened in 2017.
Salma has two twin beds...
...a well-appointed ensuite bathroom...
...as well as a seating area.
You can watch the giraffes at the breakfast room from Salma's balcony.
Just behind the Garden Manor, stands a greenhouse known as the Orchid House.
Giraffe Manor is without doubt one of the world's most unusual hotels…
…and will leave you with indelible memories.
