"Setari Camp review"
It is small and exclusive. The wooden buildings are all built on stilts with a long walkways between rooms, it is stylish and fun, the rooms or tents were extremely comfortable, huge beds, sofas, desk, bathroom with bath, indoor and outdoor showers, it was more than I hoped for with clever chic fixtures and fittings too.
The communal areas were the same and we enjoyed chatting to the staff, eating with the other guests and the fire pit and stars were fabulous. We appreciated the pool after a hot morning on safari which seemed very luxurious considering the location and water shortage.
The guides took us out in very small groups but we were mainly alone as a family and the boats were great fun with a viewing deck above and loads of drinks. We saw a huge abundance of birds, elephants, lechwe, hippos, monkeys, baboons and crocodiles. The guides were charming and very knowledgeable and really did their best to read what you wanted to see and do and managed our time efficiently.
We tried fishing but were unsuccessful although my teenage sons were very keen. It was a nice change for them to be active after hours in the boat. We asked for a mekoro boat ride but in the deep Delta is is considered dangerous I suspect and so a short trip was squeezed into the journey back to the airstrip, it was on a fairly boring tiny channel of very shallow water with different younger guides and it was a bit disappointing.
We were also walked through a local village which made me feel uncomfortable and made to look at their basket wares and other souvenirs which were on sale for a high price. It was interesting to learn about the village and understand how is is supported by the state but it felt voyeuristic.
Overall, though it was wonderful and I would highly recommend it." See all these reviews: 7n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe

The accommodation was fabulous & being raised on elevated walkways meant that we could move around on our own at night. Staff and guides were really helpful. All in all a great introduction." See all these reviews: 13n in Botswana

We saw some animals we didn't see at any other camps, such as Nile crocodiles, water monitor lizards, reedbuck and sitatunga antelopes. But the birds were the real draw here for two of us, and the fishing for the third. The catch here were tigerfish, really beautiful and plentiful. The hour boat ride from the airfield to Setari Camp through endless papyrus with herons flying right and left was amazing.
We also did a mokoro trip here, just delightful, and visited the village by the airstrip. The crafts available to buy there were beautiful, I really coveted some larger baskets than I didn't have luggage room for, but still I bought a number of smaller items for gifts. It was extremely interesting to walk through the village.
Our guide was brilliant at birding. He found a Pel's fishing owl for us, which I had especially hoped for, African skimmers, herons, storks, too many wonderful birds to list. And in the afternoons, between activities, hanging out at the pool I saw many more birds." See all these reviews: 10n in Botswana; 8n in Namibia; 2n in Zimbabwe
