"Kanana review"

2 nights Arrived 7 Sep 2011
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kanana. The staff looked after us very well (especially when our boat lost its propeller out on the delta.)
They ensured that we made the best use of our short time there, and that we were picked up and dropped off for our connecting flights punctually.

Guides again were very knowledgable about animals and birds etc." See all these reviews: 10n in Botswana

"Kanana - great water safaris"

3 nights Arrived 2 Aug 2011
"The water/boating activities were fantastic and our guide KeKe was very good. Amos our land guide also was very good, but the lack of game was due to the floods and therefore the game drives were limited, but we saw all there was to see.

The camp itself and location was lovely, but we felt the service and food was not quite up to the standard of Okuti. The staff did not seem to have to same spirit of camaraderie as the othe two camps." See all these reviews: 9n in Botswana

3 nights Arrived 4 May 2011
"A great setting for the camp and good lively introduction to the Camp and activities by the Leader , Olivia. Again very good guies and the walking tour was well worth the trip with a guide, Waso, who knew the plants and trees as well as the habits of the animals.

The Makoro trip was really good with Foster. A great Camp to return to." See all these reviews: 10n in Botswana

"Staying with elephants in Kanana"

2 nights Arrived 17 Oct 2010
"Wonderful staff, lovely surroundings, great food, excellent facilities. And lots of elephants, in and around the camp.

The only thing that made the experience less than perfect was that our guide seemed on edge a lot of the time. Maybe the chemistry between us, maybe that's just how the guy is. Which was a pity because we never had any doubts about his competence in the bush: he most certainly knew his wildlife, and we never felt less than safe but it did detract from enjoying the trips with him occasionally.

Having said that, we had a great time in Kanana, with 2 activities standing out in particular:

First, the boat trip to the heronry, which is simply astounding (seeing the one at Shinde after this one was rather disappointing).

And second, a mokoro trip in the morning, something Kanana came recommended for - and rightfully so." See all these reviews: 10n in Botswana

"What a fantastic introduction to the Delta!"

3 nights Arrived 18 Aug 2010
"A welcoming and well-run camp, with friendly staff, an excellent guide (Moses), lovely rooms, and good food.

Our boys (12 year old twins) had a fanitastic time - our guide made sure that they had every opportunity to participate and to learn, and took time to explain things in language they understood.

This was the best possible introduction to the Delta area." See all these reviews: 9n in Botswana

"Brilliant introduction to Botswana at Kanana"

3 nights Arrived 19 Jul 2010
"Kanana is a great introduction to safari in the Okovango Delta. Although primarily a water based activity camp, there is also ample scope for game drives with plenty of game on offer. The birding is particularly good - even in the dry season (we saw over 100 species in 3 days). Birds had begun to arrive at the spectacular heronry (pelicans, various storks, herons) by mid-July. This involved an interesting short (30 min) motor-boat journey.

On the drives we saw a pride of lionesses (5) hunting by night. The same pride also passed through the camp (unseen by us). Plenty of elephants - including a night time visit which kept awake some honeymooners in tent 8 at the end of the camp (much to the entertainment of staff and guests the next morning).

The tents were all you could want from a smart hotel room - but with far better views (over the lagoon) and sound effects (frogs, hippos and elephants).

The general areas were comfortable and relaxed. Dining together was jolly and convivial, facilitated by the charming friendly staff who ate with us. Singing and dancing was part of the experience - it never seemed forced or contrived.

The food at the camp, prepared under the supervision of Bea, was first rate. Plentiful, varied, and delicious. The nibbles to accompany the sundowners showed great attention to detail and thoughtfulness.

We had the same guide throughout (Bimen) who was excellent: knowledgeable and good company.

Overall the management was efficient and charming and this created probably the most relaxed and chilled atmosphere of the camps we visited." See all these reviews: 9n in Botswana

"Kanana for landscape, with life"

4 nights Arrived 19 Mar 2010
"Although Kanana is only two minutes' flight from Pompom (we could have travelled by car and boat), its setting was distinctive: ridges above the flood level gave scope for varied woodland around the open swamps and 'pasture'. This provided more cover for game than at Pompom, though birdlife was equally in evidence, and we observed more plants and trees.

Shakes and his colleagues are excellent guides, able to spot Pels fishing owls in thick foliage and knowledgeable on all aspects of wildlife. They willingly took us by vehicle, foot and boat to a range of sites, without spending a long time photographing sleeping lions.

We had come to expect excellent service from managers and staff, and were not disappointed at Kanana: we were served with humour as well as consideration, which made for a very relaxed stay." See all these reviews: 14n in Botswana
