"Luxury lodge, still needs to find it's feet"
2 nights Arrived 3 Nov 2017
"Overall we had a great stay. The rooms are beautifully updated, a sort of mixture between modern African and Scandinavian style. The outdoor space is nice and the plunge pool is lovely (but very cold).
Sandra, the manager is a lovely lady who runs the camp well. All the staff are great.
Food is excellent and plentiful (actually there is too much of it)
Safari outings were nice, Chalton is a good guide. The reserve is vast and you don't see that many elephants. The sundowner cruise was great. The trip to the falls was OK but felt rushed as we had to be in time for tea at the Vic falls hotel and the cruise.
The private dinner was a lovely surprise.
There were a few minus points that I would like to mention:
The windows and mosquito shutters were not replaced in refurb I think They have gaps and we had a few bugs in the room. The shutters are rusty and ugly.
The plunge pool should have solar to heat it up. The water is very cold.
The cushions next to plunge pool are water stained and buttons are rusty, It looks dirty
When I arrived I used toilet at restaurant. It was very dirty. No towels and wee all over seat.
Whilst the place is luxurious and beautiful, it feels a bit soulless: no cozy communal fire pit or cozy bar. It wasn't very full when we were there so maybe that is why but it lacked atmosphere. Maybe &Beyond assumes people want privacy but a lot of people who go to Africa like sitting around a fire pit. It is part of the romantic idea of safari.
I would advice the place but it depends what people are looking for." See all these reviews: 5n in Zimbabwe
