Stone Town

Stone Town was constructed during the 19th century...

...and hasn’t changed much since then.

You can enjoy beautiful views of the ocean...

...and discover what remained...

...from its rich history.

Stone Town is something of a labyrinth...

...with small alleys that offer places to shop and eat.

The atmosphere is unique and romantic...

...and you can watch some beautiful sunsets over the ocean.

"Safari an amazing time"

I visited Zanzibar and 1 other country between 4 Sep 2010 and 15 Sep 2010
"We had a wonderful trip. Expert Africa were extremely good and everything was organised to a high standard. We experienced no problems at all.

Our Safari in the Selous game reserve was truely amazing with so many great memories. I can not recommend it enough.
Zanzibar was interesting and an eye opener to how a lot of people live.

Thank you Expert Africa.

I also had contact with Liz Wollen [Ed: one of the Expert Africa team] who was also very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble even when I changed my requirements in my initial enquiry. Everything was organised and detailed perfectly.

Thank you Expert Africa. I would have no doubts in recommending anyone to you." Read full review: 11 nights in Africa; 6 on a Zanzibar holiday

"A wonderful holiday"

I visited Tanzania and 1 other country between 12 Aug 2010 and 22 Aug 2010
"We had a truly wonderful holiday. The advice that we received from Ellie Dunkels was exceptional. The places that she recommended to us were so "right" it was almost as if she knew us personally. Liz Wollen helped us closer to the time of departure and was very helpful and accommodating as our plans changed.

Tanzania itself was wonderful. The people we met were charming and gracious, the countryside, animals, birds, sea and fish were breathtaking and Stone Town was a fascinating place to end a memorable holiday. For all of us Chole Mjini was definitely the highlight but Lake Manze is pretty hard to fault!

"Overall trip"

I visited Zanzibar and 1 other country between 5 Aug 2010 and 21 Aug 2010
"This is the first time I have ever arranged a trip using an agency. Although I have worked regularly in Tanzania over the last decade, I was not confident I knew enough about the holiday side and would be able to arrange the necessary transfers.

I was recommended the Bradt guide to Tanzania and noted that Chris acknowldeged his involvement with Expert Africa and sort of liked that. So got in touch and was very ably advised by Liz Wollen. I was late in doing the bookings but she guided me very competently through the available choices and I cannot fault her recommendations. I

n the event, on several of the bookings, she was able to get us better deals than we thought was possible at the outset. When she left on an assignment to Africa, Ellie seamlessly took over the arrangements. It was a pleasure working with the team and everything, without exception, went as planned.

Not a whinge but a suggestion. The pickup times on the transfers by road were not specified and it wasn't always easy to find a contact at the transfer company who was fully up to speed. Everyone now has mobiles in Africa - when I visit farmers in remote parts, I make the arrangements by mobile - so why not recommend that your clients buy a local sim card and send the details to you. You can then advise hotels, transfer companies etc so they can text collection times and other last minute info as needed.

"Great help and patience"

I visited Tanzania and 1 other country between 27 Jul 2010 and 11 Aug 2010
"As nervous first time safari virgins we were really pleased with the organisation and service we received. The whole experience, apart from Breezes, was great. The transfers on Zanzibar, guides from Nomad and advice we had were first rate.

"Ruaha to Zanzibar via Selous"

I visited Tanzania and 1 other country between 22 Jul 2010 and 6 Aug 2010
"We thought this was a fantastic trip and it confirmed our love of Africa. The people were wonderful and we were helped whenever we needed it - puncture on Zanzibar, getting lost in Stone Town etc. We never had any concerns for our safety and felt that the Tanzanians must be the gentlest people we have encountered.

Go to Ruaha - the game is a s good as Chobe in Botswana. Selous is a good alternative and has the advantage of water activities and walking safaris. Game is harder to find though.

Breezes is great if you have children, its facilities are good, it is safe and the perfect spot to unwind.

I would avoid the Zanzibar Coffee House except for cake and coffee. There are better alternatives - we were moved to Grand Palace Hotel which is brand new (and has a few teething problems) and the Swahili House looked good as well. We had an excellent Italian meal at the Spice House.

"Expert Africa organised everything very well, our taxis and middle men were very efficient and reliable.
Great advice for what we liked doing and we enjoyed our whole stay in Africa.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

No, we picked you because you had extensive good and bad reviews available on your website (so an honest and exhaustive approach), and later on your staff were very good and helpful on many levels." Read full review: 12 nights in Africa; 7 on a Zanzibar holiday
