Nasikia Naona: Our full report
Nasikia Naona (“I hear, I see” in Swahili) opened in 2016.
In 2023, Little Moru opened close to Naona Camp as a seasonal tented camp. It is a small tented camp in a secluded corner of the Moru Kopjes hills, offering tranquility and the promise of escaping the crowds.Naona camp is a colourful camp, with plenty of character and a wonderfully friendly and helpful team. With just eleven tents, the camp aims to cater for families, couples and solo travellers alike. The location is a little way from the busy game drive cicuits, occupying an idyllic valley, west of the scenic Moru Kopjes. The many Commiphoras, Balanytes egyptica and Acacia robusta trees make this area popular with large herds of elephants, who seek tranquilty around the camp.
The main camp areas are fronted by a cleared open area, great for evening dinners and for enjoy a drink by the fire pit. The main lounge area is spacious, filled with recycled dhow wood furniture, accentuating a relaxed Swahili vibe. There are plenty of comfortable sofas and deck chairs lining the front of the tent.
Next to the lounge tent is an open-sided dining tent, arranged with individual tables and a long banquet table used for buffet-style meals.
The guest tents are spread out on either side of the main areas, edging into the forest line, looking out towards the valley. These rooms are large with the same dhow wood furniture, crafted into impressive four poster beds with draping mosquito nets. To feel less tent-like, long curtains and oriental rugs give the tents a homely feel.
Each tent is set up with a writing desk, a small sofa and coffee table with a stocked coffee station. Large and spacious cupboards are provided for personal belongings. The ensuite bathroom has plumbed loos and showers, which are heated by solar.
The family tents are larger than the standard tents, each with one double and three single, four-poster beds, a seating area with two armchairs and a coffee station.
The furthest tent from the main areas is the honeymoon suite. Set up on a wooden platform, ideal for private dinners in a secluded atmospshere, it offers beautiful surrounding views. The décor of the honeymoon tent is set apart by a more vibrant colour scheme and additional romantic throw cushions.
