Yellow Baboon Fly-In Safari: Summary
Yellow Baboon Fly-In Safari in a nutshell
Well known for its dramatic scenery and contrasting landscapes, Ruaha is also Tanzania’s largest national park, offering safari-goers a comparatively quiet experience due to its vast size, small handful of camps and subsequent low visitor numbers.
This adventurous fly-in safari offers an in-depth exploration of the park’s rolling hills, large open plains and forests of skeletal baobab trees from two camps in contrasting locations. In both, the focus is on immersion in the surrounding wilderness through a wide range of activities.
The trip begins at Kwihala, an elegantly traditional tented camp at the heart of Ruaha’s best game-viewing region. From here it is not uncommon to see elephants browsing along the neighbouring dry riverbed or for game to wander through camp. As one of the few camps where night drives and walking safaris are included in the rates, Kwihala also enables guests to discover the local flora and fauna from a different perspective.
Similarly, Kichaka prioritises walking safaris as a means of exploring the untouched eastern regions of the park. Located in this wildly remote area, the camp enables guests to discover wildlife away from the beaten track and in almost complete isolation. Fly-camping heightens the sense of being "lost in nature" and 4WD game drives are available to aid exploration further afield.
At both Kwihala and Kichaka, the guiding is superb. The teams share an encyclopaedic knowledge of the surrounding bush and this, coupled with their shared enthusiasm, makes for a first-class experience.
