"Great Self-Catering Option in the Kalahari"

1 night Arrived 24 Dec 2012
"Even though basic, the Kalahari Tented Camp is an excellent value.

The tents are very comfortable and clean. The separate kitchen area can be a lot of fun if you come prepared (we were not as prepared). It is very convenient that they provide you with pans, dishes, utensils and the basics for cooking. There is even an area where you can barbecue.

There is a small grocery store in Mata Mata with some basic food, mostly canned. Great value!" See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia; 8n in South Africa

"Kalahari TC - What a excellent base for Aoab"

3 nights Arrived 16 Oct 2011
"Three days at KTC were perfect to explore the northern part of the Aoab riverbed (between Mata-Mata and Urikaruus), which is the part of the park where we saw more activity. We would drive out at gate opening, come back for lunch and do a afternoon drive from 16hrs until gate closure. Once again, the early and the late hours are the most productive. Cheetahs, Bat Eared Foxes were seen frequently!

The cabins at KTC were spacious, comfortable and very well equipped, overlooking the Aoab river bed. The nights however where much more calm in terms of wildlife activity. The occasional jackal could be heard and seen crossing the river bed in front.

The guards at KTC were informative, helpful and very attentive, checking us every single night. The shop at Mata-Mata (4Km) was very simple but with enough basic supplies ( water, bread, etc...)." See all these reviews: 14n in South Africa

"Kalahari Tented Camp review"

1 night Arrived 21 Nov 2010
"We stayed one night at the Kalahari Tented Camp, having spent 2 nights at Grootkolk - so it had a lot to live up to!

The camp is fine - and the facilities are excellent (including the separate kitchen tent) - but you feel more separated/detached from the wildlife than at Grootkolk. The waterhole was only properly visible through binoculars - so the opportunity for night time viewing was very restricted (we were helped - fortuitously - by the light of the full moon, otherwise we wouldn't have seen anything!).

Again - it is usefully located, at the far end of the park (and this is the area where you will see the Giraffe - we saw a group of 29 individuals, amazing!) - but somehow it hasn't got that "wow" factor that we were hoping for." See all these reviews: 11n in South Africa

"Kalahari Tented Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 9 Sep 2010
"We arrived back here before 10am but according to the very young boy in charge, the tents were booked up and wouldn't you know we were back in the shabby tent, complete with the hole in the floor and missing air-vent stick.

On reporting it, this time the floor was mended quickly." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia; 6n in South Africa

"Kalahari Tented Camp review"

1 night Arrived 7 Sep 2010
"This tent was shabbier than the one we had earlier. There was a hole in the floor where a piece of the floorboard had fallen through, which I pointed out to the warden and no stick to close the air vents.

It was at this waterhole we saw a lone cheetah." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia; 6n in South Africa

"Kalahari Tented Camp review"

1 night Arrived 5 Sep 2010
"The new border post at Mata Mata is an absolute pleasure.Friendly and super efficient staff. Our tent had a good view of the waterhole but quite a distance away.

The bedroom was very comfortable and spacious. The separate kitchen tent had everything you could need. If there is a problem, the warden calls every day and is always helpful." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia; 6n in South Africa

"Unexpectedly, our favourite camp!"

1 night Arrived 1 Jun 2010
"Beautifully designed and equipped rooms with a separate kitchen and a superb barbeque area, all private.

Great views across the dry river bed though better for birds than for animals, even though there is a floodlit waterhole.

This was the best birding location due to mature trees. There is an inviting swimming pool here." See all these reviews: 7n in South Africa
