"Kalahari Tented Camp review"

4 nights Arrived 31 May 2024
"We had the family, four bedded tent, number 8, spacious and with two windows overlooking the distant waterhole. The bathroom had a shower on one side, with a see through door and a toilet with a solid door the other side. The washbasin, in the middle, was open to the sleeping area.

The kitchen was well equipped, with two gas rings and a fridge/freezer. It also had all the dishes and utensils required, although we did take chopping boards, a sharp knife and a metal toaster for using on a gas ring. After our first night, we discovered that the fridge/freezer (gas) had stopped working. The camp supervisor, Jan, who was very helpful throughout our stay, arranged for it to be fixed. We were only in KTP for four nights, so luckily did not have much frozen food.

The braai on the outside kitchen area, was bigger than I expected so took a lot of charcoal. It became so cold when we were there (-1c at 8am one morning) that we were glad of the braai at night, plus our hot water bottles!

We did not see a huge amount of wildlife during our stay- springbok, black backed jackals, giraffe, oryx, wildebeest and one red hartebeest, but others staying at Nossob had excellent sightings during the same time. For us, who are more used to a mixture of walking/drives on safari, four nights was enough for a first experience of being confined to the car." "Once you past the rules, do not leave doors open or food unattended due to black backed jackals it was okay.

We had the light go in the kitchen on our first morning, which was fixed by the time we returned for lunch. The shower was tempremental but doable.

The unit was large, and the kitchen adequate but I fear the others would be too small. If you like toast buy a unit which I did from Amazon as they were not provided at Grootkolk or Kalahari and the one at Urikaruus looked dirty/well used.

The gas hob had one reasonable flame and a very small one which i got serviced as I could not even hear gas hissing out of it." See all these reviews: 9n in South Africa

"Kalahari Tented Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 8 Apr 2023
"The only wilderness camp we stayed in the park and we had a good time there - recommend as long as you know what to expect. We had some issue with the light bulb in the kitchen / lighting the stove and we found the only staff at the camp to be very helpful in fixing the problem for us.

Nice view from the balcony - there's also waterhole but it is quite far and we didn't see much. Black backed jackals were regular visitors to the camps (we were asked to keep doors locked because of them).

The only inconvenience we found is that we cannot charge our camera in the room and need to go to Mata Mata (5-10 mins drive) to charge." See all these reviews: 17n in South Africa

"KTC "

3 nights Arrived 12 Sep 2017
"Really nice tented accommodation but as with any canvas tented camps they can get extremely hot in the day and cold in the night and when Kalahari wind whips up it is noisy and feels like the whole thing is going to take off!

The location of this camp is excellent with stunning views." See all these reviews: 7n in South Africa

"The animals come pretty close here..."

2 nights Arrived 11 Jun 2017
"Take your hot water bottle with you if you choose to stay at Kalahari Tented Camp in June. The tent is not insulated against the cold and there is no heating but you can keep warm with your braai fire and a hot water bottle in your bed.

The units each have a separate kitchen unit and a small terrace separating it from the sleeping tent. I always doubt that the wall separating you from the animals will keep them out but so far so good but it is a little disconcerting to find that the jackals can look over it to watch you eating your boerwors. Lions and cheetahs are regular visitors to and through the camp.

A great place to stay within easy reach of the Mata Mata shop and filling station. The resident ranger will keep an eye on you and inform you of any interesting visitors." See all these reviews: 16n in South Africa

"Loved this camp. Big room with patio, seating, BBQ and separate kitchen. Amazing views.

It provided everything we needed for a great stay, including two resident yellow mongoose.

Unfortunately there were no activities as the ranger was away" See all these reviews: 15n in South Africa
