"River Crossing review"

1 night Arrived 11 Oct 2024
"It really isn't fair to compare River Crossing to any of the lodges we stayed at, or even the very fancy Weinberg hotel.

It was a comfortable room and a nice breakfast and conveniently located close to the airport." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"River Crossing review"

1 night Arrived 5 Aug 2024
"This is fine for a night. Beautiful views of mountains and Windhoek in the distance.

Some hiking trails are available though we did not have time to walk any of them. Note that the lodge was quite tricky to find at the time we were there because of all the construction on a major highway going on - and we did not expect to need 4WD this close to Windhoek! The room is rather sparse and compared to the other places this was much lower quality, e.g. no outdoor light at the door make it hard to see where to insert the room key. And, there was even litter visible off the patio. The TV did not work (though most other places didn’t even have a TV, nor did we want one (!), but the Olympics were on and we wanted to see that on our last night in Namibia. The restaurant is good. This is really a great location if you need to get to the airport early, and the view at sunset is great.

It may not quite be a fair comparison, but we stayed at Arebbush Travel Lodge in Windhoek before our safari excursions. The quality of the room was much better, and probably at much lower cost (though we don't really know that). Arebbush does not have any walking trails nor a view of anything, but for just a comfortable hotel room and a good restaurant, it was more than fine, it was very good." "A nice place out of Windhoek to relax before flying home although access awkward due to the new road being built from Windhoek to the airport.

Close enough to still explore Windhoek itself." See all these reviews: 20n in Namibia

"Current roadworks made it a little hard to find (and we definitely appreciated Expert Africa's written directions off the main road, and the lone road worker who pointed us in the right direction!).

Nice pool and outdoor area, convenient place for a stopover." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia

"River Crossing review"

5 nights Arrived 26 Nov 2023
"I was here for several days finishing up a business assignment before starting my holiday. It was a comfortable and pleasant base for my work, spacious chalets and good food. I enjoyed the pool also. The location is very convenient for Winhoek city as well as the airport. Only minor drawback was services - had to ask several times to get laundry done and when it was returned it was (although ironed) in a black bin liner!" "River Crossing review"

1 night Arrived 10 Sep 2023
"We were very happy with using River Crossing as an overnight stay close to the airport at the beginning and end of our holiday. You have to negotiate the new airport road construction part way along the access road but this was well signposted. It is a shame but the new road can clearly be seen from the lodge terrace and the lower numbered rooms (rooms 7 upwards still have nice views of the hills).

The rooms were spacious, clean and functional with good air conditioning, tea/coffee making facilities, a fridge with complimentary water and plenty of hot water in the bathroom. My room at the start of the holiday had a hand-held shower over a corner bath which was awkward to use so it’s best to make sure you get a room with a shower only.

No wildlife drives or walks were offered and I’m assuming this is because the new road has and will affect their ability to do this.

We found the staff friendly and the food decent. There is a 3 course set meal offered in the evenings with a choice of 2 starters and 2 main courses and a dessert. We got charged only for the courses we ate." See all these reviews: 23n in Namibia

"River Crossing review"

1 night Arrived 3 Nov 2022
"Our room was down a slope, which had missing flag stones so luggage had to be carried over sand! Health and safety disaster for anyone with walking challenges especially in the dark.

Room itself was fine. Dinner actually was good a carribean version of gammon with cheese sauce.

Service poor. No breakfast as they were not starting until 7am. Take out breakfast average. Directions good!

Looks like a bypass is being built beneath the property so crossing may be interesting when that is built." See all these reviews: 7n in Namibia; 5n in South Africa

"River Crossing review"

1 night Arrived 21 Sep 2022
"The access road to the lodge has changed because there is a new airport road being built through their land. The entrance off the current B6 remains the same but thereafter the road winds around the construction area. There are no problems with this, it just looks a bit disconcerting.

The rooms here have beautiful views of the mountains or the city and are comfortable, if a bit tired and in need of some basic maintenance.

We ate a good, if basic, evening meal here; we were initially told that it was a set three course menu, but we chose not to eat three courses and were charged accordingly. Breakfast was fine. Service is good, and guests seem to be kept separately from those just coming for a meal.

River Crossing seems to be developing a lodge style, in that they are offering wildlife drives around their land and guided tours of Windhoek. It may well be that it is worthy of a longer stay, rather than being just an overnight stop near the airport. I think we would be interested in doing so."
