"Elephant central"

1 night Arrived 5 Apr 2013
"Huge room that allowed us to roll our beds outside and sleep under the stars which was lovely.

We went on the afternoon game drive to find the elephants - we were the only two guests for the trip and had an amazing time, literally taking hundreds of photographs. It took an hour of tracking to find the herd and was well worth it, then we went off to find the lions. Unfortunately they were hiding but we were out for five hours in total and experienced some incredible scenery - none of which we would have thought to see from the location of the camp itself.

The staff singing after supper was lovely." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Beneath the stars at Doro Nawas"

2 nights Arrived 16 Mar 2013
"Spacious, stylish and very clean accommodation in a camp with stunning views from everywhere within it. The attention to detail within the rooms was impressive.

The staff were all extremely friendly, helpful and professional and were obviously (justly) proud of their camp and very happy to be working there. They could not do enough for their guests.

The food and service were excellent -the only minor observation is that the excellent breakfast buffet should be better protected from the attentions of the local bird population!

It was so hot during our stay that we decided to relax in the camp facilities rather than go on the offered activities. The highlight for us however was the facility to wheel the comfortable beds onto the deck at night, gaze at the shooting stars and passing satellites and sleep beneath the amazing sky before waking to see stunning sunrise colours.

Whilst not affecting us in any way, we would observe that the distance and terrain between chalets, restaurant etc might make this a difficult camp for anyone with impaired mobility." See all these reviews: 19n in Namibia

"Great location for star gazing"

2 nights Arrived 16 Dec 2012
"We were completely blown away by our stay here, beginning with the welcome from Aggie and her amazing staff. We absolutely loved every minute we spent here.

The location is amazing, a complete 360 view, which you really appreciate when night falls and the stars come alive. The guides are really knowledgeable and will happily talk you through all the stars visible.

Having lots of different outside space was great and made us feel we had to make use of it all. The pool is amazing and we definitely enjoyed whiling away some time there during the heat of the afternoon.

All the meals were delicious and the staff so very helpful, friendly and just a joy to be around.

The highlight for me were the beds, being able to wheel them out to sleep under the stars was phenomenal and I have to say we did it both nights we were there. The only issue was sleeping as I didn't want to miss out on the view! Also loved the outside shower, we definitely enjoyed being up close and personal with the outdoors.

We went for a guided walk which was really interesting and informative.

Couldn't fault it at all and were very sad to leave." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia

"Doro Nawas is very good"

1 night Arrived 29 Sep 2012
"Doro Nawas lodge is located in a beautiful & quiet corner of Damaraland.

You can pull out your bed & sleep on the terrace under the stars. No bugs or flies ever bothered us so we had a great night of sleep.

The next morning the staff had a "surprise breakfast" for those who wanted to get up at 6:30am. They drove us to the nearest mountain 10 min away from the lodge & when we arrived nicely set breakfast was waiting. It was the "sunupper" experience ;-) Opposite of "sundowner I guess..." "Damaraland - Doro Nawas"

2 nights Arrived 27 Sep 2012
"Comfortable accommodation, thoughtfully arranged so as not to be overlooked by neighbours - making it possible to make use of the outside shower on the veranda - with a huge window/door and view over surroundings.

The food and service were good and what at first sight seemed an over-regimented approach and pressure to partake in the bush drive (eg breakfast at - not from - 6:30) was not followed through. The staff were friendly and helpful and the nightly hot water bottle was very welcome to protect us from the desert chill. The staff choir was a highlight.

Organised trips were disappointingly and excessively expensive so (as at Canyon Lodge) we drove ourselves to the local points of interest." See all these reviews: 20n in Namibia

"A Gothic experience."

2 nights Arrived 19 Sep 2012
"We agree with the comments in the guide book regarding the rather oppressive architecture. The whole ambiance could be greatly improved with a coat of lighter paint.

Room well appointed but gloomy. Cold at night, needed hot water bottles, and windy in the afternoons. Staff friendly and helpful with very good english.

Very little game near the fort but desert elephants were found after a drive up the Huab river bed through spectacular scenery. Probably only worth one night if you can get there in time to do the elephant drive." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia
