"Focus on frills at the expense of basics"
The main lodge was beautifully designed and offered spectacular panoramic views, however the gravel pathways between the chalets and the main lodge were badly lit at night and could have been tended to better, given that luggage had to be hauled over them.
The guest chalets were spacious and clean but they felt less cosy than Sossus Dune Lodge as they were quite dark, both in terms of lighting and decor. The lack of tea-making facilities in the room was disappointing. There was also no Wi-Fi access.
The staff and guides were friendly. We did feel however that too much emphasis was placed on entertaining guests at the expense of meeting some basics needs. For example, staff tended to clear plates before guests were finished with their meals, and arrangements for lunch were not clarified by the guide/manager as the morning game drive concluded, despite lunch being included in the price of the drive.
We were happy to move on from Doro Nawas." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia
"Beautiful lodge,stunning location Doro Nawas"
Really enjoyed the meals, the service was so friendly and the food delicious.
Views from the dining room were gorgeous.
Amazing, huge rooms.
Younger son got bitten by a scorpion ( in his bed!) on day2. Response very good: immediately they called a 24 hour helpline and I talked to a doctor in South Africa. Guides and manager descended on us to identify the culprit. Luckily it was not venomous, just a sore arm for a few days.
Doro Nawas was very close to Palmweg where we were taken to from Etendeka. We got there at 10.30 in the morning, and spent the afternoon doing the local sites. That meant we didn't have anything left to do on the second day so we had a day sitting around. Very restful. If anyone is pushed for time, you could just do 1 night at Doro Nawas if coming from Etendeka. But you would miss out on a treat:" See all these reviews: 11n in Namibia
"Doro Nawas review"
Magnificent rooms with stunning views, lovely outdoor showers. Meals were excellent and vegetarians well catered for. The staff were enthusiastic and the atmosphere was great, could have stayed longer.
Yet another place not to be missed" See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia
"Must learn !Click language"
Don't miss this Lodge is our opinion, if it's cold they'll put hot water bottles in your bed. This touch certainly appealed to my wife so 10 out of 10 was always going to be their score from us!" See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia
"Doro Nawas review"
Friendly, helpful staff.
Dramatic setting and a chalet with stunning views across the hills.
Very comfy room with a great verandha to enjoy the scenery with a drink.
Bit odd; tea bags and coffee sachets in room but no kettle or hot water.
Evening meals good.
Would have liked a guided walk but a large American tourist group had booked all guides. We were warned though to book in advance to guarantee an activity. Walked alone which was fine as camp visible for miles for orientation." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia
"Doro Nawas review"
Being a Wilderness camp it suffered from the same stilted introduction to dinner that we found in Kulala. Whilst this may be attractive to some people, we felt that it made the staff look uncomfortable and the delivery felt forced, masking the naturally welcoming manner of the local people. They also served frozen cheesecake - dessert doesn't appear to be a strength of Wildernass camps." See all these reviews: 17n in Namibia
"Doro Nawas review"
The staff were a little unclear when it came to settling the bill and we had to tell them what we had had – we realized after leaving that neither they nor we remembered the laundry bill. Not a big problem, I suppose, but we did feel a bit guilty." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia
"very friendly stay"
The guides were friendly and wanted you to enjoy your stay. The lodge itself and the rooms were excellent; comfortable and unique. They have older vehicles and one broke down on our safari but the staff had led the issue extremely well and no harm was done and the short walk to a village was fun.
Food was good but not spectacular. Staff a genuine gem" See all these reviews: 9n in Namibia
"Doro Nawas review"
We liked the sensitive tourism here and such things as collecting the shower water, while it heats to your required temperature, in a bucket, for using the next day to clean the room.
Food was very good and one night we were entertained by the staff singing and dancing ( not at all cringeworthy ).
A great place to see lots of things nearby - elephants, rock drawings, the petrified forest and organ pipes.
The fire pit in the evening was a great place to sit around and look at the stars." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia; 2n in Zimbabwe
