Reviews of safaris to Samburu National Reserve

"We have been to several African countries but this was our first time in Kenya and we chose areas to visit slightly off the usual track: Laikipia, Samburu and Meru.
Each was quite different but within relatively easy reach. We travelled to all three by road, only getting on a bush plane from Meru to Nairobi. Each camp too was quite individual in terms of style and atmosphere.
The tented camp Kicheche in Laikipia was our favourite overall but Saruni Samburu and Elsa's Kopje were both excellent experiences and in spectacular positions. Of the three Elsa's probably had the highest age profile.
We scored a number of firsts such as tiny lion cubs, a successful cheetah hunt and bat-eared foxes mating (in broad daylight!). It was a delight to see the animals unique to the area such as reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and Grevy's zebra. It was also a privilege to attend part of the celebrations of a Samburu wedding.

"My trip as a whole was better than I could have hoped for. It was actually James Denny that organised the trip but he is off on his own adventure now. The service I got from him and Richard was excellent. Very helpful in understanding my requirements and organised a wonderful trip. "Very enjoyable trip combining a safari in two contrasting areas of Kenya (Samburu and Mara Naboisho) with a beach holiday in Zanzibar. it was a particular pleasure that we were not bothered by mosquitoes.

"This was a carefully planned holiday to Kenya where we have visited many times before.
Our 3 favourite places are Samburu, Masai Mara and Diani Beach.

We had already decided on Little Governors Camp as this is a family favourite. Richard helped us choose Saruni and Kinondo Kwetu.

The entire trip was a fantastic success. The lodges/hotel complimented each other perfectly.

They were all different but the overall trip included 2 different, both fabulous, safari locations and a wonderfully relaxing beach location.

I can't fault it, its a trip we all loved and will remember for a long time.

"Overall a really great trip. Porini Camp was not great , but maybe I have been a little spoilt in recent years having stayed at some amazing spots, Elephant Bedroom being one of the best.

"As a whole my first long trip to Kenya was successful and everything took place as planned. The trip gave me a good insight about safaris and background knowledge of the natural world in Kenya, although my stay at Severin Safari Camp could have been better managed. I hope to revisit in the future and I certainly will want to return to Ol Pajete.

Being advised against visiting Lake Turkana was correct. Whilst in Kenya I spoke to people who had visited Turkana and they found the place unbearable because of the heat.

Lastly, thank you James for helping to sort out the trip at such short notice.

"Great trip, everything we had hoped for an more. Visiting four seperate lodges helped us gain perspective and insight. Having one road transfer from Sambura to Borana was an added benefit both in terms of our enjoyment and saving some money while avoiding the cost of air transfer for that leg of the trip.

Regarding our transfer from Sambura to Borana, I think the transfer driver was named Nicholas. We hadn't left Sambura for more that two minutes when he started pointing out details about every plant and animal in sight. Our three hour transfer turned into a four hour safari that was filled with details and infomation beyond what anyone else was providing.
