Kenya Safari

Kenya between 4 Sep 2016 and 17 Sep 2016

Trip rating: Excellent
"Great trip, everything we had hoped for an more. Visiting four seperate lodges helped us gain perspective and insight. Having one road transfer from Sambura to Borana was an added benefit both in terms of our enjoyment and saving some money while avoiding the cost of air transfer for that leg of the trip.

Regarding our transfer from Sambura to Borana, I think the transfer driver was named Nicholas. We hadn't left Sambura for more that two minutes when he started pointing out details about every plant and animal in sight. Our three hour transfer turned into a four hour safari that was filled with details and infomation beyond what anyone else was providing. This guy was the best and most informative guide we met on our entire trip."

Saruni Samburu

Saruni Samburu

"Saruni Samburu review"

3 nights Arrived 6 Sep 2016
"My wife and I loved Saruni Sambura. The facility itself is quite remote (what isn't unusual in Africa) but our experience was outstanding.

Game viewing started from the moment we were picked up from the airstrip. We got so lucky as we approached the river the scene was surreal as we saw large groups of reticulated giraffe (in my wifes opinion and mine of the three type of giraffe these were the most beuutiful and majestic), elephants, gerenuks, lions and more. Not long after our arrival we witnessed a single male lion unsuccessfully try to take down a giraffe. A lasting memory for sure.

Once at camp we fell in love with the setting, rooms and facilities. A great place but above and beyond all else stands out the people and the food. We found the staff at Saruni Sambura to be the friendliest and most engaging in all of Africa. Moses stands out himself for being the most engaging staff member on our entire trip, enthusiasm like his makes your trip truly memorable.

The food was outstanding, creative and inspired rivalling some of the best meals in Europe and America. A great experience."

Borana

Borana

"Borana review"

3 nights Arrived 9 Sep 2016
"Borana stands out for the wide variety of activities available. Not only did we enjoy daily Land Rover safaries but we enjoyed hiking to Pride Rock and seeing giraffe, elephant and zebra while on horseback.

Hunter was the new camp host and seemed to be doing a great job taking care of all the details. Hopefully he realizes and is able to make some of the positive changes this camp needs to improve their safari experience. While the staff seems very professional and accommodating my wife and I never felt any connection on a personal level with anyone at this camp except Hunter.

Food was generally good (except for a beef dinner that was below expectations) but uninspired as if the menu was created in the 1970's."

Serian Nkorombo

Serian Nkorombo

"Serian Nkorombo review"

2 nights Arrived 12 Sep 2016
"After spending six days on safari at two other locations in more permanent facilities we finally made it to the Mara and our first true tent camp experience.

Serian Nkorombo has a great location on the Mara river with very functional basic type tents. We planned our entire trip with the hope of catching the Great Migration in full force and seeing all the wonderful animals we'd heard about. Our time here did not disappoint as we witnessed a spectacular river crossing complete with crocodiles, hippos and the insanity of 700 wildebeest in a frenzied rush across the Mara River.

Our guide Francis and spotter Ciparo were outstanding, engaging and enthusiastic from beginning to end. Fred was our camp host and did a great job with dealing each and every guest. Food and service were very good."

"Serian review"

3 nights Arrived 14 Sep 2016
"After spending our first two nights in the Mara at Serian Nkorombo we moved to Serian Main for three nights. Our guide Francis and spotter Ciparo from Serian Nkorombo stayed with us which was a good thing because it really gave us a chance to get to know both of them in greater detail than our other drivers and spotters since we spent more time with them.

Serian Main sits farther up the Mara River than Serian Nkorombo and was hosted by Sophie who seemed to have a handle on everything.

Our game viewing was exceptional, the tent camp fully functional and the staff professional. Food service was good throughout."
