"Serian Nkorombo review"
Driving into camp you are met with stunning scenery. and the camp itself is tucked away between light woodland alongside the river.
There is good separation between the tents providing a good level of privacy.
The classic tents are surprisingly spacious and have storage space and a separate bathroom section. We just loved the hot bucket showers, which you can request at any time that suits you. We also really appreciated the in-room charging facilities.
The food at Nkorombo is excellent. Varied and very tasteful. It is truly amazing what the kitchen is able to produce at a bush location like this. Bush breakfasts and packed lunches on game drives are very high quality. And if you are in camp in the afternoon you will be treated to delicious cake.
The camp is run by local Masai , and they are amazing, working extremely hard and making you feel like a very valued guest. In the evening it is wonderful to share stories and experiences by the camp fire with these dedicated and lovely people.
The fact that you have a private vehicle at Serian is an enormous plus. The flexibility that this provides is of extraordinary value. You can arrange your day and your focus 100% to your liking and be out on game drives as much or as little as you please. The guiding is excellent and these very experienced professionals do not miss any significant sighting. Serian really stands out when it comes to customized service with focus on wildlife.
Located in the National Reserve you will encounter a lot of traffic on certain sitings and things may become a bit crazy when wildebeest are heading for the Mara River. We find it too busy in these situations, but it becomes no issue for the quality of the safari as you can easily head somewhere else. The reserve is full of wildlife and you can become the first and only vehicle on a wonderful lion, elephant or any other sighting if you choose to go your own way.
One thing to note about the camp location. With the proximity of the river, it is never quiet. The sound of the running river is louder than a bit of background noise and earplugs may be advised for light sleepers." See all these reviews: 9n in Kenya
"Serian Nkorombo review"
Moses and all the staff were brilliant made us feel very welcome and part of their ‘family’, our guides John and Irene managed to find us an unexpected river crossing and cheetah kill.
Best granola we have ever eaten!" See all these reviews: 10n in Kenya
"Classy secluded camp in riverine setting"
Décor of the central camp area is gorgeous, luxurious safari-chic if you were, and the entirely local front of house team are extremely hospitable and welcoming. Tents are relatively small by high end camp standards, but perfectly adequate, and décor is tasteful and new. Located at a bend in the Mara river, the sound of the flowing water adds to the 'close to nature' feel and ensures a good night's sleep. All groups have private vehicles, but meals are communal - we had a great time with the other guests at this camp, all of whom were on a similar wavelength which made for a great atmosphere in camp. Food was wholesome, varied, and of great quality, accompanied by various homemade condiments, including a few different varieties of chili oil which was a great hit.
Despite being in a generally busy area of the reserve, we barely saw another vehicle on our drives to and from camp, other than at the river crossing points and around certain sightings. Unfortunately this can't be avoided as the main crossing points are located in the main reserve and do attract quite a number of vehicles - fortunately our expert guide Jonathan (who appeared to be something of a river crossing expert) was able to secure us the best spots - and seemed to command enough respect that he was also able to ensure that other vehicles followed the rules.
We chose to stay in the main reserve specifically to look for river crossings and we were spectacularly rewarded. But for other sightings, the game viewing in the reserve is a long way behind the surrounding conservancies, owing to the large number of vehicles that congregate around predators, often following them at unreasonably close distance. This is a well known problem in the Mara, but needs to be put into perspective - even at the most crowded sightings, there are seldom more than 10-15 vehicles - compare this to Yala National Park in Sri Lanka, where there are often 50+ vehicles surrounding a single leopard. Also the open nature of the landscape means that despite the vehicle density, it rarely feels overcrowded. Vehicles are great for viewing, fully open top and sides, but can get very hot during the day when the roof is open (which is recommended for best viewing) - so be sure to take a hat and high factor sunscreen. Only other tip would be to take a head torch - the tents can be a little on the dark side at a little extra light did help at times." See all these reviews: 8n in Kenya
"Exceptional Guides/Extraordinary Experience"
"Serian Nkorombo review"
The camp is ideally located for the wildebeest migration, but when we were there most of the wildebeest had already left. Despite this we did witness several crossings. The area can be a bit busy. At one sighting of a coalition of 5 cheeta's there were at least 20 cars present. Our guides were quick to suggest we should just have a quick look and then go look for something else, with which we agreed wholeheartedly.
The camp itself is perhaps a little more basic than the main Serian camp in Mara North, but to us this only adds to the charm. And really for us it's more than luxurious enough." See all these reviews: 7n in Kenya
"Mara reserve"
The downside is the reserve regulations which prevent any off road or late evening driving. You have to be back in camp by dusk" See all these reviews: 7n in Kenya
"Nkorombo - excellent in every way"
Despite being inside the reserve the number of cars at sightings was never a problem. The behaviour of the other vehicles was also much better than what we expected based on what we read/heard beforehand.
The camp itself is very small and intimate. We really felt at home here, rather than just guests." See all these reviews: 10n in Kenya
"Serian Nkorombo review"
Serian Nkorombo has a great location on the Mara river with very functional basic type tents. We planned our entire trip with the hope of catching the Great Migration in full force and seeing all the wonderful animals we'd heard about. Our time here did not disappoint as we witnessed a spectacular river crossing complete with crocodiles, hippos and the insanity of 700 wildebeest in a frenzied rush across the Mara River.
Our guide Francis and spotter Ciparo were outstanding, engaging and enthusiastic from beginning to end. Fred was our camp host and did a great job with dealing each and every guest. Food and service were very good." See all these reviews: 12n in Kenya
