Steppe Eagle Fly-in Safari

Two comfortable tented camps overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro and Mara River put you at the heart of the action. Experience spectacular diversity in species and habitat with safari in Samburu and the Masaai Mara National Reserve.

Steppe Eagle Fly-in Safari: Summary

Steppe Eagle Fly-in Safari in a nutshell

Visit two dramatically contrasting ecosystems with safari in Kenya’s Samburu and the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Each camp has been chosen for its prime location within the region, providing quick access to the action as well as brilliant views over the nearby, game-frequented riverbeds.

Beginning at Elephant Bedroom in the hot, semi-desert region of Samburu, guests will find themselves right beside Ewaso Nyiro’s impressive banks. Elephants regularly visit and the camp’s raised, tented platforms are well-positioned to optimise views of the gentle giants coming to drink. The area is home to all northern varieties of plain’s game and, being less visited than most Kenyan reserves, feels wonderfully peaceful.

In contrast to Samburu’s arid landscapes, Little Governor’s camp has a somewhat tropical feel, located along a stretch of riverine forest. Here, dinghy rides across the Mara River and into the Musiara sector denote the start of a day’s activities, where guests will find themselves in an excellent location to try for migration sightings.

Both camps, whilst extremely comfortable, retain an element of true ‘bush rusticity’ about them. They are high-quality and unfussy, with an evident respect for the surrounding wildlife. The strong cultural presence of Samburu and Maasai staff at each further aids the authenticity of a fantastic safari experience.

Elephant Bedroom

Days 1-4

Elephant Bedroom is located deep in the heart of the Samburu National Reserve on a lovely stretch of the Ewaso Nyiro River – where game viewing is at its best. It opened in 2008 and offers relatively luxurious tented accommodation in a shady grove of acacias and doum palms.

Little Governors' Camp

Days 4-8

On the lip of an old oxbow of the Mara River, now a broad marsh frequented by elephants, Little Governors' Camp is one of only a handful of places to stay in the Mara Triangle sector of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It has won a place in the hearts of many safari-goers and has been a favourite with visitors to the Maasai Mara since the 1970s.
