"A wonderful experience"

2 nights Arrived 15 Oct 2016
"We loved Stone Town and the Emerson Spice! Our only wish was that we had booked three nights there, as it would have been great to explore Stone Town more for another day once we had found our way around. As it was, we asked Eco and Culture to delay picking us up on the 17th so we could do a bit more exploring in the morning before we left.

We would also have liked another night in the Emerson Spice. It was so interesting and comfortable, the staff were so good and helpful, the ambience was terrific and the food was so tasty!" See all these reviews: 8n in Tanzania; 8n in Zanzibar; 1n in Kenya

"Emerson Spice review"

2 nights Arrived 13 Oct 2016
"Fantastic boutique hotel in the centre of old Stone Town. Rooms very quirky with good facilities. Food excellent both in the Secret Garden and the Roof top restaurants. I have a shell fish allergy which Lyndesy informed the hotel about and I reiterated it when I arrived.

I would advise travellers to book the restaurants before you go as they are very small and are used by guests outside the hotel. I had trouble accessing the Emerson Spice web site to make a reservation so asked Lyndsey to book for me which she did and then confirmed the booking to me via email.

Well worth going up to the roof top restaurant before dinner to see the sunset. Russell and the team very friendly with nothing too much trouble.

I travelled solo and had no problems.

I didn't use any activities through hotel so cannot comment on that aspect.

Would definitely recommend and would go back to,again." See all these reviews: 10n in Zanzibar

"Emerson Spice review"

3 nights Arrived 12 Oct 2014
"This is just our sort of hotel: excellent position, small, quirky and all the staff were a delight.

We chose it, in part, because of its terrace restaurant, where we thought we would be able to relax after tramping the town. In the event, we had an even better solution: our large and colourful room had long balconies on TWO sides.

In the tiny rooftop restaurant, there is a single daily sitting for dinner and the fixed menu (which changes daily) is a 5 course taster at US$30. Good value." See all these reviews: 6n in Tanzania; 6n in Zanzibar

"Wonderful building in heart of Stone Town"

2 nights Arrived 13 Feb 2013
"We have stayed in Stone Town many times in the past so were interested to see what Emerson Spice would be like.

Overall the building and location were good, but we were given 'Siti' room which seemed to be one of the last rooms to be finished and regretfully still did not seem to be fully completed when we stayed. Our room overlooked the rear of the hotel and therefore did not give the best views.

On a plus side the rooftop dining experience was a highlight and architecture was amazing." See all these reviews: 8n in Tanzania; 6n in Zanzibar

"Beautiful Place"

2 nights Arrived 26 Jul 2012
"Beautiful room and building. Amazing history of the building, and each of the 6 rooms is completely unique. Located right in the heart of Stonetown, easy walk to all of the sights, beaches, and restaurants.

Free internet, and a great breakfast on their rooftop restaurant. Good service and staff was very friendly." See all these reviews: 10n in Zanzibar; 7n in Tanzania
