Sand Rivers Camp
"Wonderful setting"
4 nights
Arrived
5 Feb 2013
"First time at Sand Rivers we were surprised how different the landscape was over this side of Selous. Some parts of the road were very difficult to drive over ( bumpy) could be quite uncomfortable at times and wildlife was skitttish.
The highlight for us was the boat trip up the gorge it felt almost prehistoric. Food was always very good and monkeys not too much of a problem in the rooms as long as you are aware and act accordingly."

Pongwe Beach Hotel
"Over rated"
4 nights
Arrived
9 Feb 2013
"After reading some really amazing reviews about Pongwe Beach Hotel we were rather disappointed that the room we stayed in ( vals room) for four nights was not as expected. The bed was really small and the room did become rather uncomfortable when the cooling breeze stopped during the night. Fans were provided but they did not seem to be effective through the thick mozzie netting.
Meals were good at lunchtime and dinner, but we would have liked more of a choice at breakfast.
Lunch menu averaged around 12$ pp which is quite expensive, dinner around 30$ pp but as we were half board dinner was included."

Emerson Spice
"Wonderful building in heart of Stone Town"
2 nights
Arrived
13 Feb 2013
"We have stayed in Stone Town many times in the past so were interested to see what Emerson Spice would be like.
Overall the building and location were good, but we were given 'Siti' room which seemed to be one of the last rooms to be finished and regretfully still did not seem to be fully completed when we stayed. Our room overlooked the rear of the hotel and therefore did not give the best views.
On a plus side the rooftop dining experience was a highlight and architecture was amazing."
