"Mchenja Bushcamp review"

3 nights Arrived 2 Oct 2012
"Spacious and comfortable tents, friendly, enthusiastic and welcoming staff, good food (how do they provide fresh produce and cook it so well in such a remote place?) good guides and abundant wildlife.

Unbelievable game sightings - on the first night a pride of 12 lions killed a bull buffalo within 200 metres of the camp and 2 Pels fishing owls live in the trees by the camp, Hippos honk their songs and lions call all night long." See all these reviews: 12n in Zambia

"Mchenja Bushcamp"

2 nights Arrived 21 Sep 2012
"Walking from Kakuli to Mchenja accompanied by John and Davis, we saw a group of young male lions on the other side of the dry river bed - we were looking at them and them at us. It was amazing to be on foot and be able to view the lions in this way thanks to the expert knowledge of our guide and scout. A bit further on we found ourselves in need of this expertise again when the wind changed as we walked past some young male elephants. Having been ushered swiftly to a safe spot, with Davis ready with his rifle, we were able to watch one of the elephants as he put on a macho show of trumpeting and throwing his head back, tusks displayed. Fortunately he decided against charging us but our hearts were thumping!

We arrived at Mchenja to be greeted by our lovely host Amber, who was very good company. By now we had grown used to the routine of delicious lunch followed by tasty cakes at afternoon tea and excellent dinner under the stars interspersed with informative walks and drives watching amazing wildlife. We were reunited with Lawrence as our guide for our two night stay, much to our delight as keen birdwatchers, as he took us to where hundreds of carmine bee-eaters were building nestholes - a marvellous sight. In addition to all the other animals we saw, he also came up trumps on our last night drive by finding a honey badger (up a tree), which we had been particularly keen to see." "Mchenja bush camp our forth and last"

2 nights Arrived 1 Jul 2012
"We walked to Mchenja from Kakuli which took around three hours, the walks are very relaxing and you see and track all sorts of animals Once again the guide is very knowledgeable and have very good sense of humour, Our guide said I had to be positive when identifying tracts which I did with enthusiasm and we had hoots of laughter when I got it wrong which I usually did. . We had two nights at all of the bush camps and felt sad that our first experience of this kind was coming to an end . We feel that we chose right in choosing Norman Carr Safaris and would go again with pleasure" See all these reviews: 11n in Zambia

"Best Accommodation & location at Mchenja Camp"

2 nights Arrived 29 Jun 2012
"This bushcamp had the best location and accommodation of the four camps. Service was again excellent.

At last saw a good quantity and variety game.

We were delighted by the surprise champagne sundowner and camp fire held by the river where we watched a beautiful sunset." See all these reviews: 11n in Zambia

"Simon(senior guide), Katie(hostess) combined with the very comfortable chalet meant a very enjoyable stay at Mchenja. The game is prolific here, varied landscape (hot springs area being a bonus visitation), great food and very good company.

Descent sunrise at camp, varied locations taken for excellent sun set.

Enjoyable elephant, lion, buffalo experiences here. Lots to see on spotlight safari.

Thankyou to everyone at Mchenja." See all these reviews: 12n in Zambia

"Mchenja Bushcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 24 Oct 2011
"I liked the situation of this camp but our guide, Simon, was very poor. He just chatted to the scout and ignored his passengers when in the vehicle and was abrupt to the point of rudeness when out. He didn't bother to try and develop a relationship with us or the Jacksons, didn't ask what our interests were, was about to drive past a herd of elephants about to cross the road in front of us and I had to ask him to stop and let us see them. He didn't know that the Jackson's had never seen elephants up close." See all these reviews: 10n in Zambia

"Mchenja Bushcamp review"

2 nights Arrived 9 Sep 2011
"Good host and an interesting group staying at the camp. Guide (Julius) was not so good . Seemed to spend too much time chatting to the gun man during drives. The walking safari at Mchenja was along the same lines as the previous ones focusing mainly on poo.

The game drives were at a much better pace and because of the area the viewings were better." See all these reviews: 9n in Zambia

"Luxury in the bushcamp"

2 nights Arrived 16 Aug 2011
"Mchenja offered a more luxurious stay on safari. Our very comfortable room provided wonderful views of the river together with the resident hippos and their dawn chorus!

All our guided walks and drives were brilliant and the knowledge of the guides was amazing! More jeeps in the vicinity did not always offer that more personal viewing of the animals; however our guides made every effort to avoid being part of any large groups of people that would spoil our experience.

Overall, Mchenja was an excellent experience which we could highly recommend!" See all these reviews: 9n in Zambia

"A fitting climax to the holiday"

3 nights Arrived 26 Jun 2011
"After a relaxing walk from Nsolo a sensational arrival. Aubrey came tearing over and dragged us off in a vehicle for a unique viewing of a huge pride of lions killing a buffalo. This apparently is a very rare occurrence because the lionesses were teaching a young male( about to leave the pride) how to bring down a buffalo and finish a kill - not for the squeamish.

We met Andrew our guide at Mchenja and again some wonderful walks and night drives, Andrew had an amazing knack for finding anything we wished to see from leopard to chameleon, three very special days at the end of our holiday." See all these reviews: 11n in Zambia
