"Big Lagoon Camp - immersed in Wildlife"
The big lagoon is teaming with wildlife at all times and the ebony fruits were in season, bring elephants throughout the camp to be experienced and respectfully observed just a few yards from the large windows at the rooms.
The same guides, ranger and porter team accompanied us at both Chikoko and Big Lagoon and the wildlife viewing and tracking became more familiar and more rewarding as we adjusted to the terrain and the rhythm of the African bush. We anticipated looking for wildlife, but in reality found ourselves having to decide which wildlife to look at first...
We surmise that when you go on game drives you see Africa, but when you embark on walking safaris, you experience Africa. We would encourage participating in several game walks, because it took a while to become comfortable with the terrain and begin to focus on the marvels of the African bush." "Crocodile Bushcamp review"
The room was fabulous - again overlooking the river - wish we had spent more time there.
The same comments I made re Chikoko Tree Camp apply to this camp (which is now called "Big Lagoon") - basically a wonderful experience walking through the bush but you see fewer animals than on a game drive so perhaps not for those whose main interest is animal sightings." It was excellent and the view across the waterhole was magnificent." See all these reviews: 10n in Zambia; 4n in Botswana; 1n in South Africa
"Python seen on foot"
Tafika used to have two bush camps - Crocodile and Chikoko but has now transferred the Crocodile Camp to the nearby Big Lagoon. As the name suggests, it has a great view of a waterhole which is frequented by birds and animals.
The highlight for us was discovering a Rock Python which had just eaten an Impala. Tree Squirrels raised the alarm and with a bit of detective work our guide Amon and scout Titus were able to discover the cause.
The camp is simple but very comfortable. The staff were delightfully friendly." See all these reviews: 21n in Zambia

"Big Lagoon a good site"
We really liked both! Great bungalows: lofty, very smart, convenient and not too luxurious - perfect!
And lions that close - mind-blowing!" See all these reviews: 12n in Zambia; 8n in Malawi
"Crocodile Bushcamp review"
We were sorry never to have visited Crocodile camp, the site of which we passed just as we approached its successor, Big Lagoon. But the new location is absolutely stunning, looking out as it does onto the lagoon with a wonderful sitenji bar area complete with magnificent deck, and we could definitely see how - certainly as the season progressed - one could almost make a day of sitting there watching the comings and goings.
Clever use is made of the existing infrastructure from the camp previously on this spot, and the floor of our chalet had recently been upgraded but there is nevertheless still an intimate bush camp vibe which we loved. And we very much enjoyed walking on from Chikoko with Stephen, the wonderful guide we had previously met at Mwaleshi in 2019." See all these reviews: 13n in Zambia
"Crocodile Bushcamp review"
We had arranged in advance to walk from Big Lagoon direct to Mwamba as mentioned in the information on the Expert Africa website. We are grateful to Nick at Tafika for managing the logistics of this. Our excellent guide, tracker and tea carrier were all enthusiastic about this; none had done this walk previously so this was an adventure for each of them too. It was about 12.5km. We were lucky to get an excellent sighting for several minutes of a honey badger on this walk." See all these reviews: 9n in Zambia
