Boehm's Zebra Safari

This safari combines two high-quality owner-run camps in a very productive region of the South Luangwa. The guiding is excellent and with its hides this safari is perfect for serious photographers.

Boehm's Zebra Safari: Summary

Boehm's Zebra Safari in a nutshell

This safari focuses on two superb owner-run camps in the South Luangwa. You will spend four nights at Kaingo Camp followed by three nights at its sister camp, Mwamba. Both are located in prime game-viewing areas.

Both camps have an extremely strong guiding team who will lead you on both walking and vehicle safaris. For keen photographers especially these two camps are ideal. Perfectly located hides allow for staggeringly good photography opportunities, and the guides also have the skill to perfectly position the safari vehicles to allow for that perfect shot.

Kaingo is the more established camp and quite unusually for the South Luangwa is built from brick. It is perched on the edge of the Luangwa River and each room has uninterrupted river views.

Mwamba is a classic bushcamp built from reeds and grass – simple, but still very comfortable. When combining Kaingo with Mwamba guests will often take a guided safari walk between the two camps. A short walk from Mwamba camp is a permanent waterhole which is a magnate for wildlife, especially in the dry season.

Kaingo Camp

Days 1-5

The well-established Kaingo Camp overlooks the Luangwa River from beneath an old grove of ebony trees. Owned by Derek Shenton and his family, it's one of the few independent camps remaining in South Luangwa National Park. Derek, and his engaging wife Jules, live in Lusaka and are very involved in running the camp, visiting frequently and sometimes helping out with the guiding.

Mwamba Bushcamp

Days 5-8

Small, intimate and very remote, Mwamba Bushcamp is set beneath the shade of magnificent ebony trees. It's a calm, comfortable camp, steeped in nature, and overlooking a waterhole in the usually dry bed of the seasonal Mwamba River.

Owned by Derek and Jules Shenton - a seasoned conservationist and a keen photographer respectively – Mwamba is Kaingo Camp's lovely satellite bushcamp. The Shenton's dedication to wildlife, wilderness, sustainability and Zambian tradition is evident throughout their camps.
