"I loved Little Oliver's and Tarangire"
Then there was my guide, Albert. He picked me up in Arusha and we drove to Tarangire and then had an all day game drive. It was nothing short of a perfect start to my safari.
I've been on a number of safaris and, hands down, Albert was one of the best guides I've ever had. Knowledgeable, patient, passionate, funny, kind, and could spot animals like nobody's business." See all these reviews: 12n in Tanzania
"Little Oliver's is a Gem"
The camp itself is well-designed, with beautiful tents and lots of amenities. The staff members are simply amazing. They made us feel immensely welcome and took great care of us. It is a very well-managed property. The food was generally quite good. The (set) daily menus offered a nice selection and everything was beautifully presented, as were our "bush" meals. We left feeling spoiled and over-indulged!
It would be hard to beat the location - while we were in Tarangire, we saw an enormous quantity and variety of wildlife. If I was to be picky, I would have liked for the tent to have slightly brighter lighting." See all these reviews: 12n in Tanzania
"Pleasant though somewhat limited in game"
The rooms were large and rustic but had plenty of hot water along with a bucket shower outside. They had a great station in each tent for battery charging and the food was the best we had on this trip.
After three nights, our guide decided to take us on a different road to "cheetah country" on our return to the airstrip. Quite why we hadn't been there before is a mystery!
Great elephant sightings and this was really the best thing going for the park. Huge herds of ellies and buffalo and whilst we saw lion on two occasions, very briefly, along with a leopard in a tree (barely recognisable), it was the elephants that were the main attraction. If you're happy sitting watching behaviour, rather than having a tick list, it's a good place to visit." See all these reviews: 6n in Tanzania; 3n in Rwanda; 1n in Kenya

"Fabulous camp with wonderful game viewing"
This was our first experience of safari 'camping' and we loved it. The main area has a sturdy frame and roof, but with open sides, and so still provides a real outdoors experience - and the campfire (with bar!) is a particularly delightful venue for the pre-dinner drinks. The tents have a concrete base and are protected by a thatched roof, giving a more permanent look to the camp, but again the experience is of being outdoors - and the sheer mosquito-netted 'front' provides the most amazing views (from the bed!) across the bush.
The tents are very well spaced for privacy and also for additional game viewing - we needed our escorts with us as elephants passed through the camp blocking our way on several occasions! The water buck and various antelope were vaguely interested in us but generally they all just got on with their lives as if we weren't there.
The level of service was excellent. All staff were so friendly and keen to offer any support - including teaching us some Swahili songs around the campfire - a particularly special treat. The food was delicious - how that standard of food is created in such limited conditions so far from anywhere is astounding!
Tarangire provided us with our best (most concentrated) game viewing and the location of Little Oliver's so deep within the Park meant that we were well away from the busier areas. Mind you, we weren't even aware of the slightly bigger Oliver's Camp which was nearby! We stayed two nights but would have loved to stay longer. Tarangire still had plenty to offer and it would have been lovely to spend a bit more time just relaxing at the camp. We didn't have time to undertake a walking safari which would have been particularly good for my husband who's a keen birder - this was the only place on our tour where we could have done this. Some of the group did the night safari though which they really enjoyed." See all these reviews: 7n in Tanzania; 5n in Zanzibar
"Little Oliver's Camp review"
Beware the picnic on the way to the lodge after you are picked up, as it is where quite a few people congregate for lunch and rather spoils the idea of a safari in the open bush to one's self.
The other thing to be wary of in this area is the tsetse flies which can congregate in quite large numbers and soon come towards the vehical in some places when you are stopped.
Lots of game to see and good for a night drive. Also very good walking with the camp manager who was very experienced." See all these reviews: 15n in Tanzania
"Oliver's Camp review"
As we had the same guide/driver for all the Asilia camps/lodges we'll comment further in the final section but we thoroughly enjoyed watching the elephants, in particular, and were also lucky to see much other wildlife including lions." See all these reviews: 10n in Tanzania; 1n in Kenya
