... Lodge, but of a similar standard. It has a fantastic location, and the rooms are simple but comfortable.

In northern Tanzania, on the western side of the crater, the 75-room Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge is of a similar standard to the Sopa Lodge on the eastern rim. Perched on the rim of the crater, it has a fantastic location with captivating views of the caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater, which is 19km in diameter, with the Crater floor 600 metres below.

The rooms are comfortable but relatively simple, built from natural stone and wood. The Rhino Lounge Bar has a wide open-air terrace that offers a superb view of the Crater. Big field glasses are placed along the balcony so that guests can have a closer look at the game grazing below. The Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge is a good, affordable option from which to explore the local area.

Our view

It has been a while since we visited Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge, however on our last visit it was a simple but comfortable lodge in a great location for visiting the Ngorongoro Crater. It is one of the larger and more economical hotels on the crater rim, however we feel that better options exist in this area.
