"Cornerstone Guesthouse review"

2 nights Arrived 29 Jun 2013
"We stayed in room 3 for two nights. The staff were very welcoming and the room was small but had everything we needed but a slightly acrid smell of air freshener in the bathroom. The fridge was noisy overnight.

It was in a good location for walking into town in the evening.
Breakfast was good. There was a useful laundry service and a good size safe. There was a friendly cat.

Rather randomly, we were given a mobile phone for emergencies overnight (I think none of the staff stay on site)." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"Cornerstone Guesthouse Review"

2 nights Arrived 28 Jun 2013
"The accommodations at Cornerstone are simple and clean; it's not luxurious, but certainly a lovely base for exploring the region. The owners were kind and attentive, making us dinner reservations and confirming our excursions. We were pleased with our stay overall.

On suggestion: We ate at a local pub at the owner's recommendation. While the food was good, the restaurant was smoke-filled, which irritate one of our allergies. As many foreigners come from places where indoor smoking has been banned, it might be worth mentioning when an establishment still permits this practice.

Whilst in Swakopmund these guests took a day excursion to the coast south of Swakopmund. This is what they said about it:

Our Sandwich Harbour excursion with Turnstone Tours was one of the highlights of our trip. What an incredible experience! We enjoyed the undivided attention of owner Bruno and his wonderful son Kai (who was along to learn the family business). The scenery was spectacular (massive dunes, stunning coastline), but what really made the trip was talking to and learning from these two. Even changing a flat tire became a fund adventure. We would highly recommend this excursion to others.

They also opted for a kayaking excursion on Walvis Bay Lagoon upon which they commented:

We enjoyed a fun morning excursion kayaking in Walvis Bay Lagoon. Because we had to hit the road early, we were not able to venture out to see the Pelican Point seals, but it was pleasant to be amongst the greater and lesser flamingos and Jeanne's infectious enthusiasm. That she took pictures of us on the water (and promptly emailed them to us) was an added bonus!" See all these reviews: 9n in Namibia

"Cornerstone Guesthouse review"

3 nights Arrived 8 May 2013
"We stayed at the Cornestone Guesthouse for 3 nights and were made to feel very welcome. The staff were very helpful in recommending and booking activities for us, and helping liaise with the rental car company.

The location is ideal to explore Swakopmund and we were able to walk everywhere.

The only odd touch was the presence of an oven and cook top in the room made us hope we could cook our own meals but it turns out they were not connected so we couldn't use them." See all these reviews: 8n in Namibia; 2n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe

"Swakopmund - 4 nights by the sea"

4 nights Arrived 11 Mar 2013
"We were given the largest room (basically an apartment) as we were staying 4 nights, although the downside of this was that the outside seating for the room was in the carpark rather than the garden. However we were glad of the space as the standard rooms may be slightly small for an extended stay.

The whole property was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Breakfasts were superb and the owner and staff very friendly and helpful.

Whilst in Swakopmund, we arranged for these travellers to take a day-trip to Sandwich Harbour. The commented about it:

"Sandwich Harbour - a day in the dunes: Excellent"

A marvellous day with driver and guide Ernest who was unbelievably knowledgeable and so obviously passionate about the geology, birds, flora and fauna of this beautiful area. We were taken on a 3 hour walk through the (muddy) lagoon and dunes and the drive to Sandwich along the beach and back through the dunes (necessitated by high tide) was simply stunning. Whilst the excellent picnic lunch had to be taken in a wind-sheltered hollow rather than on top of a dune which Ernest would have preferred in less windy conditions, it was still a memorable meal.

Whilst the trip appears to be relatively expensive, the personal nature of it, attention to detail and the wonderful location make it unmissable if staying in Swakopmund for a few days." See all these reviews: 19n in Namibia

"Pleasant stay at Cornerstone Guesthouse"

2 nights Arrived 21 Nov 2012
"After a long drive (note the Sesriem to Swakopmund journey is the one that seems to catch everyone out in terms of length and desolation but still very memorable) the guesthouse was conveniently located and very easy to find with secure parking. Room was comfortable, clean and quiet and guests are provided with a mobile phone to contact the owners in case of any problems after reception has closed. Owners also very happy to recommend and reserve restaurants - we ate at The Tug and The Jetty (which is new and does not yet appear in the guidebook or restaurant list) - both were excellent and good value. The Jetty has glass floor panels, enabling you to sit above the waves while eating.

The Guesthouse is very well situated for exploring Swakopmund on foot and whilst it could not compete with the lodges and camps for the 'wow' factor, made for a very enjoyable change of scene. Wide breakfast choice with option of hot breakfast cooked to order." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia
