"Desert Breeze Lodge review"

3 nights Arrived 1 Sep 2023
"Very much a B&B; in a slightly surreal location - on the edge of the residential area from its road access / right on the edge of the dunes on the other side. It is maybe 2km from centre of town, easily walkable down the Swakop riverbed or edge of the dunes in the day, but, although probably fine, a bit isolated to recommend walking at night.

Accommodation again of a high standard and it was good to have the Villa, allowing us all to be together in three rooms and with a decent living area. Breakfast was fine, if a little functional.

Great trips around Swakopmund - sandboarding with Alter-action was excellent fun and really well done; Pelican Point Kayaking was a similarly good morning with a great guide and loads of flamingos and seals, and a couple of distant dolphins; self-drive to the Moonscape is well worth doing although the road condition beyond through the rest of Welwitschia Drive might make you think twice about going further; Cape Cross seal colony was impressive, even having been to Pelican Point - the cost is not unreasonable but does seem expensive when compared to other national parks - ie the same for an hour or so here as for a day in Etosha (effectively NAD150pp).

Restaurants in Swakopmund - it remains hard to beat the Wreck, although it is well out of town; the Tug and Jetty are also recommended and compare very favourably for food quality and cost when compared to eating at home." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Desert Breeze Lodge review"

3 nights Arrived 2 Sep 2022
"Very characterful chalets, simply but well-appointed, with a big double bed looking out the picture window at the sand-dunes of the Namib.

Probably where I would choose to stay if I return to Swakop, situated on the edge of town but five minutes drive from restaurants and the centre. Doesn't do evening meals so the food rating reflects the breakfasts, which were absolutely fine. Again, welcoming and helpful staff.

Although there is no wildlife listing for this location, the short drive to Walvis Bay and its lagoon to the south provides the spectacle of thousands of wintering greater and lesser flamingos, great white pelicans and numerous wader species, and we saw humpback whale and Heaviside's dolphin on a three-hour dolphin safari from the Waterfront at Walvis Bay, as well as very large numbers of cape fur seal and the odd black-backed jackal lying amongst them." "Extraordinary place"

2 nights Arrived 30 Jul 2019
"What an extraordinary lodge just outside Swakopmund. We stayed in “the villa”, a large house with three large bedrooms. Perfect for family or friends. Great views of the Swakop River. Also, 3 toilets and 2 bathrooms. Nice minibar with reasonable prices, fireplace and great sourroundings. Friendly staff at reception. Nice breakfast. Beautiful view to Swakop River." "Funky quiet out of town spot"

3 nights Arrived 14 Sep 2017
"We liked the desert breeze (we stayed in room 5) which had slightly better views of the sand dunes than the room that we had been originally allocated. The staff couldnt be more helpful and the room was very pleasant - we enjoyed the log fire each evening once we managed to light it! This is a bed and breakfast and so the main complex closes at 7pm." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia

"Desert Breeze Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 21 Jun 2017
"Desert breeze was a way out of swakopmund but none the worse for that. The views from the rooms are sensational ( if the mist doesnt roll in!).

The wifi wasn't working when we were there which was pretty inconvenient ( sorry to say!) but the rooms were lovely, the breakfasts good and the service very good.

Recommended." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia

"Desert Breeze"

2 nights Arrived 7 Apr 2016
"What a place! Hard to think we'd top the previous ones but the buildings are quirky and the views through the huge windows over the sand dunes are hard to believe - it's like a huge widescreen TV that shows irresistible sunsets and a bit later amazing sunrises.

Swakop a nice break from driving - and we had sunny weather.

Desert Breeze is no longer really separate from town as town spreads to gather it up - but it feels unworldy and hardly affected." See all these reviews: 13n in Namibia
