Sonop: Our full report

Located in the Namib Desert, Sonop, opened in July 2019.

We are still collecting information and have not yet visited but here is a little of what we know: the Name Sonop derived from a local word for "sunrise" and the vision is to create a “retreat in a panoramic desert landscape”. We understand it will be a luxurious base from which to visit the famous dunes and the pans of Sossusvlei and Deadlvei while staying away from the busier area around Sesriem.

Only 90-minute flight from its sister camp; Omaanda, Sonop will have 10 tent chalets built around boulders. The design aims to deliver a classic 1920’s explorer feel with modern twists.

We understand that facilities will include a restaurant, a swimming pool and a spa.

We will update this page with any further information and with pictures as soon as we can. Watch this space!

Our view

We are excited to see a new luxurious property in the Sossusvlei area. Whilst the people behind Sonop are relatively new to Namibia we are hoping that they will bring their experience from other parts of the world and produce a new and exciting camp in an increasingly busy area.
