Desert Hills Glamping Camp: Our full report

17km south-east of Sesriem is located Desert Hills Glamping Camp.

Often referred to simply as Desert Hills Camp, it is perched on a hillside overlooking a valley. The views across Namibia's namesake desert, the Namib, should be breathtaking and the camp is conveniently located for trips to the iconic dunes at Sossusvlei.

Desert Hills Glamping Camp opened in May 2018. We haven’t had the chance to visit it yet but here is what we know so far:
It is based in an isolated, scenic valley on private land close to the Namib-Naukluft National Park, we believe that the new tented-camp, only accessible by 4x4, offers stunning views of the stark, seemingly lifeless desert plains.

The camp consists of just 10 simple twin tents. The design combines wooden-style frames with canvas. Each walk-in tent is furnished with double or twin beds. An en-suite shower room is complete with a washbasin and in a separate room a flushing toilet. To unwind after a day climbing the dunes and enjoy the sunset over the valley, there is a large terrace with chairs just outside the tent.

The main area consists of a large modern tent with a lounge, a well stocked bar and a dining area. There is also a shaded patio area outside. In front of the main tent, a fire pit is the perfect spot to stargaze the impressive Namibian night skies. We also understand there are plans to add to the wooden deck and to add a swimming pool to the main area at some point in the near future.

Activities at the camp will focus on guided trips to the Namib-Naukluft National Park to see highlights such as Dune 45, Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and Sesriem Canyon.

Our view

Whilst we haven’t visited Desert Hills yet we are excited by the prospect of another well run and fairly economic option in the Sossusvlei area. We have long known the operation behind the camp and are excited to experience what their new camp has to offer, we will keep this page up-to-date as we learn more.
