"Very restful evenings at Eagle's Nest"
The views over the desert are stunning especially in the evening. There is a wood fire provided for cool evenings. ( We used it on the first evening.)
The rest of the cabin was well set out spacious and quite 'chic' in a semi-rustic way with a suite, double bed and a single. There is a kitchenette and dining table too with all pots pans glasses and cuttlery.
We two lovely evenings there with the barbeque and wine 'cellar' on the go. ;-)
The garage in Aus, very convenient for petrol, is also the local shop. It also sells and repairs tyres should you be unfortunate enough to require such facilities by the time you arrive there. Watch out for 'Thomas' hawking carved palm nut keyrings when you stop at the garage. He'll ask your name then quickly carve it on one of his wares to make you feel obliged to buy. If you do don't give much more than N$20 - 30 at the very most. He'll ask for 70 or so." See all these reviews: 15n in Namibia; 6n in South Africa
"We just loved it here!"
They are very well equipped and tastefully incorporated into the local landscape with wonderful vistas over the desert
We really enjoyed the option of braai packs, breakfast packs/platters allowing us complete independence and enjoyment of self catering without having to worry about supplies. Well stocked bar fridge and excellent facilities at the main lodge which can be used if desired.
well stocked and excellent lodge shop books, food and curios
Very carefully prepared information pack with a lot of interesting local area history
Excellent hiking and mountain biking trails with different levels of challenge
The current dining room is quite busy but there are plans to create a seperate dining area for Eagles nest guests to allow a quieter experience

"Great braai under the stars at Eagles Nest"
A member of the restaurant staff was very efficient in getting a braai pack prepared for us together with wood, firelighters and matches. All other guests returned to the lodge for dinner leaving us to have our braai in the dark under the stars - one of the best nights of the trip. This is definitely the way to do it at this resort!" "Actually we stayed at Desert Horse Inn!"
We travelled from Fish River Canyon along the southern route via Orange River and Rosh Pinah. This is a spectacular drive and was much easier than the Bradt guide led us to expect. Our car (including my handbag and purse) were searched at the police checkpoint south of Rosh Pinah - I think they were checking that we weren't carrying any diamonds. We had a pleasant lunch at the Frisk Coffee Shop (and nursery) on Springbok St (opposite the Spar) in Rosh Pinah.
Our room at Desert Horse Inn was spacious and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities. There was a folder in our room setting out the fascinating history of Klein Aus Vista. Staff at the resort were helpful and thankfully told us that tickets/permits for Kolmanskop can be purchased at the gate, saving us a trip in Luderitz beforehand (Bradt guide says tickets must be purchased in Luderitz). We really enjoyed our visits to Kolmanskop and Diaz Point, but found that generally Luderitz had little to offer.
This resort shows a marked bias towards its coach party guests to the detriment of self-drive guests. We were told that breakfast was served at 7:30am and arrived at 7:30am to find the coach party guests finishing up on their breakfast. Fortunately, we were able to have a quick breakfast and make it to Kolmanskop in time for the 9:30am tour! Main course at dinner is buffet style, with snaking queues on our first night."
